I just watched this movie. In fact, it was all checked out at Blockbuster where it's 'exclusive' and after reading glowing reviews comparing it to 'The Thing' I decided to plop down $25 and buy it... Overall, it's a fantastic movie. Top rate acting, great effects. I won't go into detail as it's probably been covered in this thread. I'd like to warn a certain demographic away from it but if I do the warning itself could be a major spoiler. So I'll spoiler tag it. Spoiler Don't watch this movie if you have kids. And love them. It will rip your heart out. Outside of what I just spoilered, I'd say it's a must see for anyone who likes sci-fi or horror. Certainly a sleeper from last year.
Regarding the ending: Spoiler As soon as it became clear that he was going to shoot everybody I thought, man it would really suck if he kills everybody and the military shows up. Dammit if that's what happened. And so soon too. Like if they the guy had waited one freakin' minute everybody would still be alive. I think I would have preferred it if he just stepped out of the car and got swarmed by the monsters and they just ended the movie with no hope for the rest of humanity.
You got the special edition? I hear that it comes with a Director's Cut that is all black and white and that it is amazing.
I read about the B&W edition too...but I didn't get it. I think it's blu-ray only, which I don't have yet.
Saw this move tonight for the second time. Spoiler I really thought it was such a great movie in theaters. However, watching it the second time it became one of the most depressing movies ever knowing how it all would end and watching everyone's struggle for survival and the protagonists love for his son. Even with all of this being said I definitley reccommend it for everyone whether you have seen it or not. You appreciate it in an entirely different light after you have seen it once.
I thought it was an emotionally draining movie. It wasn't horrible, but I don't plan on watching it again any time soon. It seemed like a movie adaptation for a play rather than directly from a short story.
I saw like the first 3/4 Thought it was lame as poo Then my buddy told me how it ended Respected it a little bit more for doing something totally doesn't reward the viewer for watching
me and my buddy watched it and we were like "are you serious..you gotta be kiddin me." we didnt know if it was good or bad...
I thought part of it was a little predictable, but it got exactly the type of response it was looking for. That's why I get a little confused when I see people say, "I wish the ending was rainbows and kittens ."
I guess the preferred ending for people would have been Tom Jane going all Punisher on the monsters in the mist and taking them out with head shots with the remaning bullets.
I tried explaining the ending of the movie to a couple friends who hadn't seen the movie and didn't plan on seeing it. I ended up cracking myself up trying to tell them what happened.
Spoiler There weren't any remaining bullets. He only had 3, the rest were just shell casings. That's why he didn't shoot himself. I would have actually preferred either the Army not showing up at all or him having an extra bullet and shooting himself. The fact that he murdered his son and two others when help was on their heels is what made it horrible.
Spoiler Exactly. The military came less than a minute after he shot the two survivors and his son. I could understand, if it said like 10 hours later, heck even one more hour later but it was less than minute later and the army comes. But that's why you don't suicide or help someone suicide. Stupid !@#$ like that happens.
Are spoilers necessary anymore? Do you guys think there's a moral hidden inside the movie? The mother who went into the Mist came out okay with her kid....whereas those who didn't help her, faced that hell inside the convenience store. People can act real nasty under tense situations. Sometimes the smallest acts are the ones that define how things turn out. Maybe I'm reading too much in this mind**** of a Steven King movie.
I dunno, I only saw it last week. There might be people who are considering renting it who will read this thread. Maybe ClutchFans needs to have a statute of limitations for spoiler tags. Like, if the movie is still in theaters, use a the spoiler button but one it hits DVD spoilers are fair game.
I thought the ending was good. As I was watching the movie and getting close to the end, I was dreading that it would have some sort of "open ended" ending... but it didn't. All issues resolved. As far as hidden morals, the ending definitely has a moral, but it is not too subtle.
