Overused, I know, but I was mostly mocking the poster a few posts up from mine who said he really liked a lineup that included Sessions and Jackson.
Action Jackson wants to be A ROCKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4430906 Time to go Tracy!!!
No Marcus Camby trades please. Dude is 35 and, has an injury history and little offensive game. Exactly what we need on a potentially scoring-challenged squad that's thin in the frontcourt. I guess I just don't get the obsession with him, but he's the opposite of what the Rockets need right now.
Wow. Why would we want someone who shoot .418 his whole career? He's going to be another Artest without the attitude and defense and cost money.
Ooooohhhh..... ...see, now this is one of those thread topics that keep me hanging around here..... Stephen Jackson is a swingman. Meaning, he can play either the shooting guard or small forward positions for any team in the league. And he does a pretty good job at it, too. I agree that Jackson is a bit of a knucklehead, and he could do as much to upset the apple cart as he could to pull it along... ..but I admit that I feel that, because of his versatility, he wouldn't make a bad guy to have on your team. His contract, as sensible as it is if you're talking about the right now-ness of it, is a problem, and would mean you're basically exchanging Tracy McGrady for him if you're harboring any hope of landing some big fish in the upcoming free agency period. I personally like guys with well-rounded games. Jackson's game is well-rounded. You don't ask guys to assume different responsibilities for your team if they can't handle them. Jackson has done that in his time with Golden State. They actually weathered missing Baron Davis early in that '06-'07 season because of Jackson's play. And the Warriors did struggle the next season when Jackson was out early on, too. He was a big part of what the Warriors did. And Don Nelson thought more of Jackson than he did of Jason Richardson (who I feel is a better player than Jackson), because he kept Jackson and traded Richardson to Phoenix. I wouldn't see a problem with Jackson becoming a part of this Rockets team. It won't happen via trade unless it involves McGrady, though. And that I don't think I would like. I'm still partial to McGrady. And I think I'd rather have McGrady and Jackson and anybody else here, at least in the short term. And despite Jackson's behavior (which is just as big a stumbling block as his contract), he's a guy that's won, knows how to win, and understands how to play a role. Rolling the dice with him isn't any different than rolling the dice on Ron Artest, in my opinion. What the heck....sign Jackson up. It's the offseason....we're all bored....McGrady's gotten on everybody's last nerves.....Yao's got his cast on early this year..... ...we need some comic relief....
If Stephen Jackson comes to the rockets and holds down the fort till TMAC comes back it dramatically improves our chances of making the playoffs.
You have to look at the totality and not just Camby. In the deal I mentioned, brooks, jackson, maggette, scola, landry will give the team enough points, what they would need is some selfless guys to rebound, play defense and block some shots. Camby, no matter how much you think he's overrated or people on this board thinks he is, he's a really good rebounder, shot blocker, and one of the best passing bigs from the high post or just on the court period. To top that off, he still runs the floor well and will get you 10-12 ppg. Turiaf could back him up or just about evenly split the minutes. He too will blk shots, rebound and play with great energy. He also runs the court, shoots the midrange jumper, finishes well, and is a smart guy. Out of that spot with those 2, the rockets can get 16-20ppg and 12-15 rebs and about 3 blks out those 2. They could almost offset Yao production, but maybe not his presence.
macgrady for ellis + jackson ellis + landry for nash nash, brooks, lowry ariza, barry, taylor jackson, budinger, cook scola, battier, dorsey andersen, hayes, yao
lol, i can't believe people actually want stephen jackson instead of tracy mcgrady. do you want to make the playoffs or not?
Many posters here were acting like they were happy Artest was gone, since he was a chucker, and are now embracing S-Jax with open arms? I don't get this board. He has terrible shot selection, a bad attitude, and a long expensive contract. Morey's overrated but he's not stupid, so I'm not too worried.
Because Tracy = Ring. Right? Actually, I would not mind having both. They would match up quite well with Kobe and Ron in the playoffs. If we wanted, we could always go after one of those elite PF's we have been talking about with Tracy...or not. Flexiblility! We should not trade much for the Captain, but if we can add him with some of our expirings that we might not be able to re-sign next year anyway, we should really look at it, He would be a nice fit with Yao... If we put Tracy and the captain out there, Kyle Lowry is the new starter, and Aaron Brooks is either the 6th man, or packaged for a young up and comer...
1. Chucker? Maybe...But he has a very high IQ that equates to him being a winner... 2. Bad attitude? Not really, He will die on the floor for his teammates, and be a leader in intense playoff situations. He is called "The Captain" for a reason. Gregg Pops and Tim Duncan speak very highly of him as a teammate... 3. Long expensive contract? Just false. Tracy makes 23 million, The Captain makes 7-10 million. FANTASTIC value... 4. Again, One of the highest basketball IQ's in the league...And a winner...that plays great defense... and can create for himself and others when need be... and can also be a role player like he was with the Pacers and the Spurs...And the "good Warriors... 5. The nelly system is not what has made Jacks a player, He was one long before Nellyball...
20.7 PPG 5.1 REB 6.5 AST 1.5 STL 43% FG I actually had to look up his stats last year but he played pretty well, especially assists and rebounds. He is 31 so you have to imagine he is going to decline as his contract grows. IF we could get him for scraps AND trade McGrady for something decent, AND Yao comes back near his old form, I would be down for getting him...that's a lot of if's.
in that case, I'd rather wait til next year to get SJack.....I mean wats the point of getting him now with a healthy tmac around the corner and no playoff chances in sight??????
Say NO to Maggette he's a chemistry problem, he doesn't pass the ball, he's injury prone, he makes way too much, should I continue?
