The interview was in NYC. I just can't see him saying: "I want outta GS & to win a championship, so ya'll can forget about me coming to the Knicks! They don't have a snowball's chance in hell to get the trophy!"
Expiring contracts are also nice. Anyways, I think Jax would still be good enough at 34 years of age. I just wouldn't give him a new contract. I personally wouldn't mind trading Landry + Cook for him. It would reduce our roster size, open up space for some of the new post players we have signed and give us another wing to work with. However, we would need another move as we would have Shane/Battier/Ariza/McGrady all competing for the 2/3 spots. Not one of those players will want to be a bench player long term. Still, think of our wing defense, other than T-Mac those are all long and tall players that can hit the 3 and defend well.
I mentioned this in the pops thread but I think I would only want to swing a deal for Jackson if it netted us Monta Ellis. He has all the speed of Brooks but with a more polished game (minus the outside shooting) plus he has an extra 4 inches in height at 6'3". He might be considered one of those negative value contracts though to Morey, I'm not sure. I think if we could keep Brooks and trade Lowry and McGrady who are both expiring this year to Golden State for Ellis, Jackson and some cash (filler) that would be incredible for us! Houston Trades: Tracy McGrady - $23,239,561 (EXPIRING) Kyle Lowry - $ 2,034,996 (EXPIRING) Golden State Trades: Monta Ellis - $11,000,000 - $11,000,000 - $11,000,000 - $11,000,000 - $11,000,000 Stephen Jackson - $7,650,000 - $8,450,000 - $9,260,000 - $10,060,000 Cash Considerations - (To Balance Out Money) Houston Roster: Point Guards:_____ Monta Ellis____ Aaron Brooks Shooting Guards:__ Trevor Ariza___Stephen Jackson_____Jermaine Taylor Small Forwards:___ Shane Battier__Chase Budinger______Brian Cook Power Forwards:___Luis Scola____ Carl Landry_________Pops________Chuck Hayes Centers:_________Yao Ming_____ David Andersen______Joey Dorsey I think the Rockets would pass on a deal like this simply because of the bloated contracts. They are doing everything they can to eliminate those so on second thought, maybe not, but I would still love to have Monta Ellis on this team.
He gets paid WAY too much for the Lakers to want him. They could have paid Trevor Ariza just a little more than the MLE and kept him. Why would they spend boatloads more on a declining player like Stephen Jackson? Golden State made the big mistake of overpaying Jackson and that is why he is spouting off. This is a familiar song and dance of older, overpaid NBA players. They supposedly care only about winning a chamionship a year after signing big, often untradeable, contracts.
DIMG: Captain Jack wants traded to "any of the teams in Texas", Cleveland, NY http://dimemag.com/2009/08/breaking-news-stephen-jackson-wants-out-of-golden-state/ Moreygitherdone?
sounds like more of a preference than a demand. of those teams: -NY would not take on his 4 year contract. -SA and CLE don't have the chips to match, unless they are willing to part with mason & bonner, or west & gibson respectively. not a typical spurs move, and i doubt cleveland takes that gamble. -the mavs can easily make this trade work using expiring contracts of greg buckner and kris humphries. -the rockets could make it work with a number of different interesting moves. would you trade shane in a straight swap? what about brent, cook, and chuck if it meant going over the LT and sacrificing future cap space? i would strongly consider either option if we were able to pry brandon wright from them.
No he isn't. He puts up numbers on good teams, and plays great defense... He has been on good teams his entire career, starting with his great contribution to the Spurs championship...
