Stephen Jackson is a championship role player. He's won everywhere he's went. He gives you clutch shooting, solid defense, and leadership. He even led the Charlotte Bobcats to the playoffs. When SA was eliminated in the WCF at OKC in game 6 in the 2012 playoffs, he was the only one that showed up on the road outside of Duncan and Parker to help the Spurs try and win that game. So you can't sit here and say he doesn't have it anymore. He made $10 million last season, maybe he'd be willing to take a pay cut and give Houston a hometown discount (I know he was born in Houston, but raised in PA).

Lol @ people saying he's a "cancer." During the past 4 seasons you've seen Ron Artest, Deshawn Stevenson, and Birdman...all supposed "cancers"...contribute to their teams winning championships.

Maybe in his prime but this isn't 2008.

We need role players that fit the system (i.e. run the floor, hit open jumpers, bring energy).

What we DO NOT need are pretend 3 pt specialists (that can't actually hit the 3 pointer), ball stoppers that dribble with their head down and malcontents recently exiled for clashing with their coaches over PT.

my thoughts exactly. i know people want some veteran presence on this team to help out/watch out for the young guns but can we at least pick people who are more level headed?

It's not just that Stephen Jackson is a cancer, he's also not good anymore.

    Last 3 years:
    FG % / 3%
    12-13: 37/27
    11-12: 37/28
    10-11: 41/33

Now look at horrible Omri Casspi:
    12-13: 39/33
    11-12: 40/31
    10-11: 41/37

Casspi has been a better shooter the past 3 years. Now, none of that is to say I think Casspi is any good, rather it's to point out that Stephen Jackson is washed up. He still brings attitude and defense on the court, but he's a bad offensive player who doesn't shy away from shooting because he still thinks of himself as a "gunner." Add in the fact that he wouldn't want to play for the minimum with no guaranteed playing time and that when he's unhappy he's a cancer?

    I'll pass.

To Kwame, Casspi is going to be potentially a last guy off the bench type player for us unless he really shows something and he's playing for the minimum. Those two things would make Stephen Jackson kill somebody.

he'd be ok off the bench. we need a 2nd backup wing who has size, can defend, and run the floor. he cant run the floor that well but good enough for a bench player. any shooting he brings is a bonus

Fundamentally I agree that we need tough guys, I just think these particular guys are too old so they are too one dimensional. We need tough guys with skills like Mad Max or young Rasheed Wallace. There is also the tough guys that aren't knuckleheads like Mario Elie, Bruce Bowen, Shane Battier, Billups, Tey Prince, Derek Fisher (when they were young). I think the difference with San Antonio this year is that they had two young tough defenders with offensive skills, Leonard and Green. I don't think we will get anybody this year and that might be the difference between a championship and butt whipping by the Thunder (Ibaka is one of those guys with D but not so much on offense).

Who doesn't love the Black Willem Dafoe? But he's just old and washed up.
