Yup, teaches Sunday school at his church... http://www.christianpost.com/news/stephen-colbert-talks-faith-in-christ-childhood-tragedy-67019/

I came across this video of Steven Colbert interviewing Neil DeGrasse Tyson out of character. Based on this, I have high hopes for him. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/7BHQIasisqY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Seemed a bit strained. Parts of it were very funny, and parts of the show didn't seem funny to me at all, although that was the intention. The "music" thing at the end was terrible, in my humble opinion. I hope Colbert doesn't make a habit of doing that. He seems to be doing the "Colbert" character from Comedy Central more than I thought he would. I don't have a problem with it, since I loved that show. Way too early to make a judgement call about this show. So far, I call it a mixed bag.
I watched. I was never a fan of the Colbert character. And yes, he seems to have brought that crazy level of enthusiasm to this show. I always assumed that wackiness was just part of the character I didn't like... either that's just part of his on-air personality or he was just crazy excited and will settle down in time.
He's not doing it at all anymore. He retired the character when the Colbert report ended. There was no sign of him in the show last night
C- Clooney interview was garbage and some of the bits were too corny. I'm not sure the real Colbert is boring enough for geezers and hip enough for younger folks.
Some harsh reviews. I thought it was pretty good. I liked "Mentalist" switch and the Donald Trump Oreo metaphor. It does seem a lot like the Colbert Report down to the 'Stephen!" chants at the beginning.
The jokes are hit and miss, the bits with props are really bad. The band and the music are not good. I don't think this format suits him.
I laughed out loud multiple times. It was fantastic, but then again I never come here to enrich my knowledge of contemporary comedy, entertainment, basketball, or... well, anything these days.
Like I did with TDS and Colbert Report, I DVR it and watch it the next evening without commercials. I was ecstatic to just have Stephen back in my home. The show as expected, was somewhat up and down. Jeb Bush was soooo uncomfortably boring, strange choice for me but I guess Stephen was trying to remain somewhat politically topical without the liberal satire. Clooney was sorta boring but being the first guest was hard. He didn't have a project to push and they were visibly trying to avoid the typical star interview. The movie parody was cheap but they have to do those the day of. The Oreo bit was classic Colbert, awesome. The musical closer, Sly's 'Everyday People' with a large cast of guest artist was euphoric. I loved everything about it except Buddy Guy looked next to dead. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Stephen is still Stephen, his humor is off-beat and fearless. It's just like though, the years of totally skewering the absurdity of politics and news reporting didn't change anything so let's just have a delightful evening. I'm a little disappointed but OK with it.
The multitude of jokes about CBS having control over the show has me worried. It was way too similar to the Letterman format. Or Carson, Kimmel, Conan, Ferguson, or whoever format. I watched Tuesday's show last night. A few funny moments, but quite disappointing over all.
I think there were some bright moments. Some of it was not there yet. Almost every talk show takes a while to build up into what it really is. I'm sure that will be true of this one as well.
