Said it in the D&D thread...... it is a waste of intellect for America's top political satirist to become a celebrity ass kisser.
Happy for Colbert but it kinda sucks since he won't be able to do his ultra conservative Colbert character anymore. At least I assume he won't
I love Colbert but I don't know how well this will work. His interviews are generally pretty terrible.
No they are not. The are generally sympathetic to the guests, sometimes challenging when he feels like the message is getting lost in the noise of politics as usual, and sometimes adoring of genius. If you want to see the best celebrity interview of all time, find Colbert's interview of Harry Belefonte'. edit: http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/01fxlb/harry-belafonte
I absolutely love the Colbert Report. Such a shame he won't be doing it any more after this year, I hope they still archive the episodes so I can rewatch them. Guess I'll have to switch to the Late Show to continue watching him, although it'll be interesting to see how his interviews will have to change, since he won't be parodying the ultra-conservative character anymore.
So hopefully this means Jon Oliver will take Colbert's spot...not that I was hoping for Colbert to go.

People do like him, but he's pretty niche and always comes off as being "on". Letterman, Fallon... they have "it" in a natural way. Colbert, 99% of the time I see him, he's in some weird mode. He doesn't come off as authentic. He comes off as programmed and methodical. Like he's an actor playing a role. So nobody really knows what his true personality is like do they? People that dislike the guy don't come out and say it, like I said, he's niche. Those people just don't comment. The detractors are about to get vocal. I don't see it working. Square peg, round hole. Too big of a role.
Don't think smug snarky sarcasm will play well with the CBS audience. That's why Letterman was declining in the ratings to begin with. Colbert just turns that up to 11 Ferguson would have been far better.
