Not an Obama fan (nor am I a fan of the GOP for that matter...dislike both parties equally), but the bailouts began under Bush.

Yes, but Bush also curbed government spending and balanced the budget. Oh, crap. That wasn't him.

Damn cut tax and spend big government conservatives!

It's sad to see that the failed Republican policies that led us to the brink of financial disaster and income disparity has led to such a growing need for assistance.

It's disheartening that some here find the suffering of our neighbors as fodder for partisan propaganda.

It's encouraging to know that we have an administration that is committed to keeping the lives of the less fortunate from worsening, while bringing the country back from the GOP produced precipice.

Food stamps account for about 1.9% of federal spending. Are you really claiming that it is this spending that is bankrupting us?

Defense spending is 24% of federal spending, which is going to get us back in the black faster, cutting food stamps or cutting defense spending? Simple math that even you should be able to do.

Umm, you do frequently engage in little to no thought or analysis. And you're biased. Umm, that wouldn't be an insult. Those would be facts.

Yes, Obama came to us with an economic plan. Is the economy better since the end of the Bush Recession? Yes.

Is it as good as it could be? No. But, then again, UE went up from 2000 to 2004, and I voted for Bush despite this.

BTW, when you start at 8.3% UE like Obama did, and it rises to 10% within 9 months, you're not going to bring it down by more than 2 percentage points. Again, the rate of decrease from peak to July of the 4th year- Obama 1 is #3 among all presidents since 1980, bested only by Reagan and Clinton.

Now, are you asking me if I'm going to vote against Obama because isn't 7.5% (that would be the biggest decrease, 2.5%, since the Great Depression, and it happened under Truman). Well, first, it's not November. It's September. And I don't know what the UE is for August yet. I'm not going to base a non-vote for Obama on .5%. Because I also support gay marriage (really, who gives a **** if two adults want to get married??), abortion, and other liberal causes (as well as deficit reduction strategies, the right to bear arms, and capital punishment), it'd take more than that. I voted for Bush in 2004 and the UE increased.

Why do you sit around and wait for the government to help you out? You just need to work a little harder and good things will come to you.

Nope. Not even close. About a 40% increase from 1982

As a percent of the population:

Or there is this one which emphasizes how bad things have gotten recently

I believe qualifications for stamps have changed since the recession. This may have be done in order to allow unemployed persons who have not "spent down" their savings to recieve food-stamps before they qualify for unemployment.

The wealthiest people in the nation destroyed our economy but never had to worry about their own bills ... and now more regular people need food stamps.

This doesn't have much to do with Obama, and everything to do with the people who truly started all this **** for everyone except themselves.
