If Canaan gets consistent minutes, he's going to blow up and become a star!...We shouldn't trade Canaan just because Mchale doesn't know how to use him.

He has looked a lot better than Nick, Daniels, Garcia, Ariza and even Beverley at times on offense, I can tell you that. This is exactly why McHale is not a great coach and really doubt his judgement at times.

    Open shot = good shot

    Contested shot = bad shot

Its for sure not only one game counted for Canaan.

Again McHale mentioned how the coach and Morey will evaluate a player :

    - this player's progress in the last 2 seasons, is there consistence.
    - his on floor performance
    - his performance in the practice
    - his performance in off the floor practice, such as weight room ect.
    - his stats against good team vs stats against bad team

Canaan's struggle is not only on defense on the floor, but also on the practice, even in preseason camp, he was outplayed by Ish.

He is a SG in a PG body and he won't fit in here.

Outplayed by Ish...smh. Canaan is good fit for this team. Every game he's started except for Golden State, we've won! Trading Canaan would be a mistake!

Absolutely not. His contract is essential in any future trades we might be trying to procure.

Using that logic, the Texans are undefeated in every game Arian Foster throws for a touchdown! We've gotta make him our next QB!

Canaan is decent on offense, but he's still a minus on the defensive side. Nicky J actually has some good defensive moments and looks to position himself properly; he just gets called for phantom fouls sometimes (that rookie status). If our identity is to be about defense, it makes sense why Johnson is getting more burn than Canaan.

IMO I say just cut Black. No one is gonna trade with us in a days time. I would bet easily that he'd get picked up off waivers, but it's the least detrimental move to our cap. If we do somehow trade someone though, I'd like to see Dorsey traded to reduce our cap commitments for this and next year. I think Black and Dorsey are a toss up talent-wise.

Cutting Black seems the easiest choice

Jason Terry can't guard a tree either, he's ALWAYS chasing the tree...we gonna cut him for Josh?

I mean c'mon Canaan has stepped up to the plate & produced, besides a freak ankle injury he's likely still contributing within our offense & deserving of playing time.

Plus the Jet can't even play backup PG without 1 or 2 dumb turnovers a game

The fact that Canaan can sub for Beverley and the team not miss a beat, proves to me he's a solid player. Do not trade Canaan!

Anyone can make an open shot.
The gifted players can make contested shots when the defense locks down.

Name the players on this team that can make contested shots.

Don't panic, DM isn't going to give up Canaan, Nick, etc. unless he gets the value he's seeking. He already knows the move he's going to make (likely cut Black), but he's just seeing what the market might offer that would allow him to get some valu w/o having to cut someone. DM has proven time and again that he's the Grand Master. This week alone, Brewer, Shved and Smith (for Daniels and some 2nds) was an incredible coup for the Rockets.

I like Black, but he's nothing special. He needs 1-2 years in the D-league to hone his low post game.

I do agree Terry is not a good defender also in this team.

But there is a huge difference between him and Canaan even on the defense side.

Terry's bad defense is because his physical ability mostly gone which is normal for an old dog like him. But he is still experienced, he at least will try to be the right position.

Canaan on the other hand, mostly was lost on the floor, without even trying.

Part of it is the lack of experience, part of it is just the lack of interest to pay to details.

Terry will have some bad turnovers and he could jack up some quick shots sometime also.

But the bottom line is, his teammates trust him more and willing to pass him the ball while when the ball was on Canaan's hand, its a different story.

Agree with you DD! I believe Capella is possibly the worst 1st round pick the Rockets have ever made other than Royce White. He is athletic, but clearly not an NBA level player. Huge red flag when everyone says he may be good enough to be an NBA level bench player in 2-4 years. He averaged under 10 pts a game in Europe and the Rockets just picked him in hopes he'd stay out there and we could land a big name free agent last summer. If there are no suckers who take him via a trade, then just cut him and leave the other more talented true prospects on the team. Just watch him try to shoot a free throw and imagine the quality shooter he will be in 2 years. The one thing he does well is block shots, but the rest of his game is absolute garbage and we are in a win now mode. He is a poor poor poor man's version of Thomas Robinson and we only got a second rounder for him.

He's just not developed yet not to say that he wont be in the future but the Rockets are in "WIN NOW" mode. Harden is in the prime of his career so I have to agree Capela should be cut instead of Tarik Black. The Howard-Black combo in the post has been BEASTLY at times in winning the rebounding battle in some of these close games.
