So you're complaining that Nene's a 4 not a 5. You're right. Besides what idiotic team would play a 4 at the 5 anyway? Oh wait, we do  ! In a Scola involved deal for Nene, we gain 5" at the 5 (size does matter doesn't it, ladies ;) ) and put our best front court defender at the 4, at his natural position. Now the opposing 5 has to work his way around Nene instead of just shooting over Chuck. Is this our cure-all move? No! But it up grades our team in an area we need. That's my long winded version of "Getter done, Morey"!

Whats not to like about Nene?
Only behind Scola in terms of scoring while being the 2nd best post defender for our front court.
Still at a decent age of 28, and have stay healthy for the past 2-3 seasons. Does not depend on agility, play hard and play tough.

Other then his contract, whats not to like about him? But comes to think of it, serviceble big man for this season and trade bait next season.
And I really doubt that he wants to take a chance with his 11m contract when the CBA comes into rulling.

Makes too much sense for this to not be true. Isn't Nene the most efficient post scorer in the league?

Shot blocking is overrated, unless you have a Bill Russell who can block the ball to one of his teammates. Defensive rebounding is more important.

Shot blocking isn't overrated at all. Blocked shots might be, but having someone in there who blocks and alters shots all the time stops teams from driving in the paint so much. Making teams settle for outside jumpers is a plus.

In addition having someone that can clog up the middle makes it easier for our guys to play perimeter D. They can funnel the opponent into the middle, or take more risks knowing that there is someone back there who won't let the other team have an easy lay up.

So now Chuck Hayes is the best pf on the rockets! wow...smh....He has shown some offensive improvement through his new post moves and increased free throw accuracy, but he is not the answer to make the rockets a contender.

So, a three year extend-and-spend totaling $50 mil - or more - is OK for Nene? Just asking...

For all the crap most of us have talked about Chuck, the dude MIGHT be the best fit at PF we CURRENTLY have on the roster. He plays ELITE level defense, decent rebounder and has improved his scoring enough that 10ppg might not be out of the question. Scola is good on the offensive end but his rebounding numbers keep coming down and his defense is just bad. IF you add Nene, Scola offensive numbers are replaced and you get better at the four, defensively, by leaps and bounds creating a better mix of offense/defense.

So dwight howard can block a shot to the rafters but the team still gets the ball back. Why would we want nene to do that anyway? As long as the guy can get both offensive and defense rebounds (which he could do but doesn't particularly well) we'd be ok. To become more than ok, we would need the coaches AND chuck to teach him how to play better defense. Ideally, with his build, he wouldn't need to play chuck-style but he hasn't really used his athleticism for defense has he?
Also, I'm sure DM has made phone calls to half the teams in the league. That means we're "in the market" for maybe 10-12 players which in turn means that the likelihood of landing Nene virtually as small as landing Melo.
The only way we're really getting want we need is to draft a good 5.

Isn't he injury prone like our previous center? I just want players that I know are going to play :(

Not saying that. The value of Varejao's contract to me right now has 0 value. He has 3 years left after this year, getting an avg of $8.5mil/year.. and he's out for the remainder of this year which wont help us. How he would recover from his injury next year..we dont know.

Kaman has one more year remaining on his contract after this year at $12 mil. He's only played 10 games and there's still no telling when he'll be ready to play again.

I've always liked Kaman's game, but he's YAO-lite.. ability to score and clog the paint, but cannot stay healthy.

If we wanna make noise in the playoffs this year, then Nene would be a better pickup than Kaman or Varejao IMO.

In terms of size, he is an upgrade to Chuck Hayes. Jordan Hill ,Nene, Scola, and Patrick Patterson would be our rotation upfront.

The question really is who the Rockets have that Denver would want for Nene?

Can we trade Brad Miller and Jared Jeffries for Nene?

    Can the Rockets afford Nene?

Good. I think they would probably use Yao's contract so Denver gets the $$$ savings and the Rockets don't have to send out too much talent.

Denver would have to add one more player, most likely either Andersen, Harrington or Smith. Andersen would be great.

If Yao comes back next year, this deal looks even better. Yao, Nene AND Miller at C...

If Nene opts out, then the Rockets could get a huge TE and some other assets out of a S&T.

That is the question, isn't it? That and could we get to, and make noise in, this year's play-offs with Nene (and/or Melo and/or _______)?

I'm all for getting Nene, but let me say this,he's solid. The notion about his rebound average because of carmello is bs. Dream averaged 11 with thorpe and horry grabbing 10 and 6. Zach Randolph grabs 10 rebounds with gasol and gay grabbing rebounds. It doesnt matter,if you can rebound, you can rebound.

Nene would be a short term band aid which is cool. As long as it doesnt take the rockets out of a shot at howard, williams,or paul. Nene tbh is kinda frustrating to watch. He has so much talent and skill,he always leave you wanting more. Nene will help this team because he does have size, quickness, agility, strength and effeciency but like someone else said, he's more 4 than 5. Contract is reasonable, but there is a possibility of his eto being used. Ideally to me, if they could get Nene and Kaman, it would be better.
