If I told you there was a team with a player like that on a team with a 20/10 PF, a just under 20ppg SG, and an extremely efficient center, you'd expect them to make the playoffs wouldn't you? You would certainly expect them to be better than a team with nobody averaging 20ppg, or 10rpg, whose starting center is 6'6. But alas wins take more than just stats.
A horrible deal for who exactly? You sound like a bitter Memphis fan. This is an awesome deal for the Rockets being as Memphis is in our division.
u know, i actually hated the gay/battier trade, up until today! we would not have been contenders with gay over the past few years.
see that's the problem.... usually that's a triple stat, as in 20/5/5...now that's something to rave over...but 20 and 5? (20/6 in this case), not so much, especially when you're getting 19 points on 16 shots. He's not worth more than 10-11 at this point, Kevin Martin money, and he's a lot more efficient.
how much higher could NY really get? Initially memphis wanted to offer like 10 mill a year, i think rudy wanted 12-14 or something around there...now they ended up paying even more than that...they should have just given him the extension at the price he wanted earlier if they wanted to keep him that bad, would have saved them money and time.
that's true. but that's all dependent on the idea that such an offer was coming. i would've waited to see what offer he got from other teams, then offered him the same amount, just back-loaded. i don't think anyone was going to offer him the max, but we'll never know.
i was just giving my opinion on the deal. and fwiw it's not awesome since memphis keeps a good young player even if they are paying a nose bleed price for him.
Whats it really matter when there's a salary CAP? Every team has mostly the same allotment of cash they're supposed to spend without going over. Its just some teams are dumb enough to tie it all into one player. Whats bad about it is not so much a single incident of 1 team way overpaying. It that it sets the MARKET for OTHERS to get overpayed too. Memphis is stupid. But what happens is other teams cave into stupid agent demands who want the similar stupid pay. If you lower the cap from 55 mil to 40 mil, and you pay a player 15 mil a season under the new cap, isnt it still the same problem?
