Walsh isnt Isiah now NY striking out now isnt good IMO he may sign some talent, mediocre talent but not for big $ NY will be bad next year, but they may be so bad they get the #1 pick (screwing over our swap) then when the lockout is over NY will still have cap space to sign other FAs to smaller deals and make that team more competitive making the 2012 pick less valuable. honestly i want NY to overpay for not so quite star talent this year gay, boozer were the perfect mold for that...someone they could sell to their fans as a "star" but it wont get them anywhere
Wow, no wonder the Grizzlies suck so much. Gay is going to be a dead weight a couple years down the road. This is only slightly less dumb than the Hedo deal.
http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1026939 Knicks fans comments are funny. "told ya. everyone is getting maxed out. hurry up and give lee the max before it is too late" and my fav "damn it No Gay-Love-Sessions front court"
At best, NYK will have a 25% shot at getting the #1 pick. I'd rather take the risk of them getting #1 pick by guaranteeing our pick would be top 4-5 rather than them be mediocre and give us a #10 pick.
i dont trust stern enough NY doing bad? they have a shot of getting the #1 pick and the get to keep it? will there be a potential star in next years draft (knight) yes? it would be like the cold envelope all over again
Gay stays in Memphis, ATL offers Joe Johnson the max so he'll probably stay there, the Knicks are surely getting more and more desperate, will they offer a max 5 year deal to someone like Paul Pierce, knowing he's only worth it for at most 2 years?
i'm surprised no one pointed out that they are bidding against themselves! gay was restricted. that means you wait for the market to determine his value. i doubt any team would've offered this much. they could've got him cheaper. why the heck would they make the first offer when he's restricted?
Lol, told yall he wasn't going anywhere...although I wasn't expecting this. The Grizzlies are really dumb, all they had to do was match the QO he'd get, see if he's really worth that for one more year then offer that type of deal. What the hell they draft Henry for any way?
nba.com The Grizzlies' decision came after owner Michael Heisley consulted with general manager Chris Wallace and other team officials. Memphis decided it made more sense to just pay Gay rather than wait for another team to come forth with an offer sheet that would have almost certainly included a front-loaded salary structure and signing bonus designed to make it harder for Memphis to match. Such front-loaded deals usually have language that forces the team looking to retain its player to write a huge up-front check for most of the player's first-year salary in the new deal.
that makes sense, but i don't see the problem with paying him up front and having his contract get easier to swallow each year. its not like they are anywhere near the LT.
Is today officially "small market teams overpay for questionable talent before New York gives up on Bosh/Lebron/Wade and starts overpaying for those guys" day? Does Memphis really think spending max dollars on Rudy Gay was a good idea? I'm calling it - Memphis fire sale in under two years. Team will be up for sale and Gay will be packaged with someone else on a more reasonable contract like baby brother Gasol.
"we should have kept gay, we could have locked him up after his rookie deal, in his prime, for less than 10 mill and we'd be stacked with talent" Where y'all at now?
This is why the League wants to reduce max contracts, in the next CBA, to protect bad owners from themselves. This deal is crazy stupid, and once again we see how lucky we are to have Morey as our general manager. .
God bless you Chris Wallace! In four years we'll be taking on your "Rudy Gay's Expiring Contract" in exchange for your first round picks in 2015 and 2017. Keep up the good work!
