Pittsburgh went 15-1 last year. Let me repeat that. Pittsburgh went 15-1. Beat both of the Super Bowl participants as well. They added a better back in Willie Parker and they have Casey Hampton healthy now. This is a very good team, quite possibly the best in the league. Did I mention they went 15-1 last year? Still... Steelers 20 Texans 21
Your not quite the eternal optimist, are you? I don't think we'll win, but I also don't think they'll shut us out. Ben will make a few mistakes.
no offense, but i hate that quote. that mindset is locked in "can not." and it's simply not the human experience.
i know. that's why i said "no offense." i just have a hard time with pessimists. realists, i'm cool with. and i love dreamers.
I guess the context doesn't come over the bbs very well. I've grown up with a dad who is now the grumpiest man in the world. The family nickname for him is "chuckles". I laugh about it and we tease him all the time about his grumpiness. He's an auditor for the IRS, so his career sorta guides him toward misery. We have lots of grumpy sayings that we laughingly throw around. Here's another one: "The beatings will continue until morale improves."
My argument is not based solely on power rankings. Did you even pay attention to football last year? Going into the AFC Championship game last year it was like the worst kept secret in the league that any analyst or announcer was supposed to pretend like the beatdown the Steelers gave the Perfect-Patriots earlier that year simply didn't even happen. I could go on but I don't need to. I'm sure the other 99% of Texans' fans reading this thread don't want to hear about the Steelers' and their lack of respect issues. The Steelers are head and shoulders the 2nd best team in the AFC and I can't wait until week 3 when the Perfect-Patriots come to Heinz Field again. Jags are better, "If Losman thrives".....this is all comical considering the Steelers beat both teams last year, in one case with their 2nd-3rd string players. Falcons are better?.....Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Try looking at my NBA analogy objectively then we can talk. Calling it a "crock" because you don't understand it isn't justified.
Maybe you should go on because all you have right now is power rankings and your perception that announcers/analysts did not harp enough about a regular season win in an AFC championship game. I remember quite a few talking about that win, but uhm, the pats have a very good rep and it isn't going to be taken away in one regular season game esp on the heels of handing Indy(one of the most prolific offenses in history) an absolute ass kicking. well everyone has their opinions ... Last year is last year. In case you haven't been paying attention, the NFL changes pretty drastically from year to year. I didn't say the Jags were better. I said they were close to the Steelers, and they are. And the Bills have a damn good team imo, but I'm still not sold on Lossman just yet. Houston wasn't much of a test for him and he still couldn't convert in the redzone like better qbs would have. If he could convert on the clutch plays like Ben did during the regular season last year, then yeah, it's a possiblity that they could have a helluva season. yup, and that's all this is.
Try looking at my NBA analogy objectively then we can talk. Calling it a "crock" because you don't understand it isn't justified.
I understand the analogy, it's just so superficial that once you dig deeper you should be able to understand why it's flawed. 1st, the Steelers deserve nowhere near the amount of respect the Pistons deserve. The Pistons have been in the finals two years in a row now, and have had successful seasons for what? 5 years or so now? Granted, the Steelers had a great regular season last year, but how did they do the year before that? 2nd, the Magic are the bums of the league right now. Any hope they have for the playoffs is slim. Jags and Bills have a better outlook than that. Twolves are better I guess, but it still doesn't really fit. 3rd, due to the nature of the season, the line between good and mediocre is a very fine one. Hell, the line between mediocre and bad is a fine one. Steelers could very easily regress back to mediocre with a few stumbles here and there. Pistons have 82 games to work through whatever stumbles they might have. Everyone is hung up on the 15-1 record because it looks so impressive, but there were several games that could have/ should have gone the other way. Their performance in the playoffs was not impressive, esp for Ben. Other than Polamalu, their dbs are suspect. I do think Plax being gone will hinder their passing game. I'm not sold on the bus or staley but they are solid(when healthy). Maybe parker is the answer, or maybe he's just another quentin griffin. The trenches, linebackers, and coaching are the real strength of that team. That being said, I think they will win their division, and might get homefield. I don't think they'll make much noise in the playoffs, but when it comes down to one or two games anything can happen if you get the right breaks.
But Dom Capers is a better coach than Mike Nolan and most would agree the Texans have a more talented roster than either the Niners or Dolphins. As far as the city "turning on the Texans," I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard it before, and generally, the fans at the Texans games are among the most loyal and active in the game (yes, I'm one of them). The limited people who call into AM sportstalk aren't necessarily representative of the city as a whole. By the way, Pete Prisco over at CBS Sportsline picked the Texans to win this game.
You want to believe what Clayton says about Capers and the Texans having a chance, but the reality is, they don't.
Capers is more proven but I wouldn't necessarily call him better at this point, even though that has little to do with the point ric was making. And the dolphins have more talent on their roster.
Sure they do. It's not a very good one, but there's always a chance. If we beat one of the Super Bowl participants in 2003 and should've beaten the winner, there's always a chance. So, I take it you won't be watching the game?
I'll be watching. I'm rooting for the team to lose. I want to see heads roll at the end of the season.
No, I'm a fan. But when times are rough I root for changes to be made. I'm a realist. This team is not going to snap out of its funk and become a winner, they are what and where they are because of the decisions they have made. Bad drafting and bad contracts lead to bad teams.
