Although I said this I am full of hope thar JVG can hammer this selfish team into a decent Defencive and Offencive Club that will play the team game above all else. I was hoping that the Rockets might have been making trades to upgrade the team like so many others in the Western Conference. So far I believe there wont be any major moves and we could find ourselves not making the grade.

Well, let's address some of the issues at hand.

First, making the playoffs. Winning 45 games in the West does not guarantee a playoff spot, you should remember that from 2000-2001. Further, the only non-playoff team that doesn't look to be improving next year are the Clippers and possibly the Grizz. The Nuggets will be just a bad team instead of a horrible one, and the Warriors and Sonics should both contend for a playoff spot.

Second, free agency. Even with Rice's contract coming off the books next year, we'll still be over the salary cap - we're ten million over right now, and we'll be signing Posey to a bigger contract and Badiane to the minimum of 350,000 at least. Unlike the NFL, players can't restructure their contracts to clear up cap space, so that's out of the question as well. Quite simply, we have to do something about Cato(7 mil/year), Mo Taylor(8 mil/year), and to a lesser extent Moochie (3.5 mil/year). To put that into perspective, Yao, Steve, Cat, Pose, and EG make a COMBINED 17 mil/year. Without some brilliant offseason moves, it looks like we'll be out of the Brand sweepstakes next year.

Though I like what the Rocket's roster has going for it right now, the cap situation is just horrendous - something must change.
