Since there is a discussion regarding Aaron Brooks' 09/10 season, I thought I'd search for some statistically similar season, based on the following criteria: Usage Rate >= 24%, Brooks' was 25.7 Offensive Rating <= 110, Brooks' was 108. Assist % <= 28%, Brooks' was 25.6 3pts made per 36 min >= 1.5, Brooks made 2.6. Height <= 6'2'' Brooks = 6'0'' (official) I think it's a fairly good set of criteria to represent a smallish guard who took a lot of shots and a lot of 3s, didn't get many assists and, had average offensive efficiency, http://www.basketball-reference.com...omp=gt&c6mult=1.0&c6stat=&order_by=pts_per_mp There are 27 player-seasons who fit such profile, 7 of the with more than 1400 minutes played: Brooks, Bibby (06/07, when his team won 33 games), J. Terry (last year), B. Jennings (last year), Bobby Jackson (05/06), Jannero Pargo (07/08) and Eddie Housse (05/06). Thoughts?
Good lord, let's just find new and exciting ways of arguing the same thing, and hey, let's pick out stats which favor a particular side of a tired as hades argument. Just let it go, the guy got traded, no one is changing anyone else's mind, it is purely a matter of what type of player a person likes at that position. Stop clogging up the GARM with innane repetitive arguments......(LOL - the irony)... DD
I think the most important thing I learned from this thread was that Eddie House had a 27% usage rate at some point in his career. My brain just exploded.
For his sake, I hope Brooks does not have to be delegated to that type of role. He's much too good to be anyone's backup.
10 off the top of my head: Chris Paul Deron Williams Derrick Rose Steve Nash Jason Kidd Rajon Rondo Russell Westbrook Tony Parker Stephen Curry Kyle Lowry
Dude we did this thread last year in the middle of one of DaDakota's filibusters. His brothers in MIP'dom, Dana Barros and Darrell Armstrong, welcome him to the 59'ers club.
Damn! You beat me to it, didn't have exactly the same idea, but similar. I only looked at the last 2 season for all guards with a usg%> 25 and an ast%< 26. http://bkref.com/tiny/LoI33 Basically all shooting guards. No shock their, that has always been AB's problem. Shooting guard skills in a point guards body. No surprise the Brooks/Lowry combo worked so well at times. Not going to say its impossible for guys like that to work out as a starter, but chances aren't great. Especially when A) Brooks is no AI and B) the team basically has a taller, more effective version of the same player.
In 26 games with Phoenix, Brooks had a ast% of 36 on a usage rating of 26. FYI: his role was different with Phoenix as he wasnt asked to be a top 2 scorer. Keep discussing.
In a neglible sample of 473 minutes in 25 games as a career backup in PHX on a perpetually losing team (10-15, 40% win %) during the 2nd half of last season.
Watching Aaron Brooks try to run an offense is like watching Ben Affleck act. Adelman's Princeton was a perfect fit for AB. Just because Lowry is the better guard, let's not underrate AB. How quickly we forget how helpless Portland and LA were trying to guard the guy...
My point was that Phoenix did NOT ask him to score, we did. And AB helped us to a 42-40 win record that year as a STARTER in 09-10. Thats more than 50% winning rate last time I checked.
So if I am understanding you correctly, the only thing that has ever held Aaron Brooks back from being one of the best all around point guards was the Rockets/Suns had a certain role in mind for him and him being a superstar wasn't one of them?
