I wanted Vince to go to any other team besides Tennessee. I actually wanted him to come to Houston, but the team did not select him. If he went to New York, Miami, Carolina, DC, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, New England, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Buffalo, Oakland, Arizona, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Jacksonville you know you would say, hey that's my team. Tennessee was an easy cop out. You can play the old Houston Oilers card.
Naw, I expect this sort of talk to be on full display all season especially if VY aka "The Chosen One" turns in a few Sportscenter highlights. My advice is to learn to live with it or ignore it.
you're the reason this board exists! now go make a thread reminding people about whatever it is you like to remind people about. NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOooooo!!!!!!
This was fun for about a year. It got old after that. I'd rather talk about Jacoby and Schaub and stuff like that.
Won't it be funny when our offensive nucleus is outperforming their offensive nucleus? Seriously, how many VYOFers will continue to follow that team when they aren't performing up to ESPN's spin cyclers expectations? I wonder ...
Man, talk about a thread being hijacked.. Getting back to the article that this thread is SUPPOSED to be about.. It just shows how little a person actually has to know to have a job as a 'sportswriter'. I am primarily a Cowboys fan, but I have lived the majority of my life in Southeast Texas, and most of that in Houston. My Cowboys roots go back to about 1970, so it's just an integral part of my DNA, but I was always a big Oilers fan too. How could anyone live in Houston and NOT love those late-70's/early 80's Oilers with Bum and Pastorini and Snake and Renfro and Earl and all those wacky characters. If not for those freaking Steelers, man, this city could have had a couple of SuperBowl Trophies to brag about. Anyway, it's been hard, really hard, to invest much emotionally in the Texans, mainly because of the gross ineptitude of Casserly and Capers. McNair chose what he felt was the best choice to helm the franchise ni Casserly, who then chose Capers, but in reality, all that really accomplished was wasting the first 5 years of the team's existence. I swear, it was almost as if Casserly was deliberately trying to permanently r****d this franchise. I mean, he could not have done a more effective job of making every wrong decision at every opportunity if he had been trying to. Anyway, Kubiak and Smith have cleaned house pretty well, and this is now a team that I believe will be worthy of the unconditional affection so many people in this city have been starving for. And as for the Cowboys, well, yeah, it's been hard for the last ten years or so. The Dave Campo years, when Jones for some reason was convinced that he was football-smart enough to make all the important decisions, hand-picking Quincy Carter, giving up 2 #1's for Galloway, well, ouch. But when Parcells came in, that attitude changed. Parcells apparently told Jones straight-up that he needed to keep his nose out and let the football people do what they know how to do. (Ironically, this is exactly what McNair did, unfortunately he had Casserly, who makes Weisbrod look like a genius.) So, getting to the article, especially in light of this Sunday's results, it looks like he may turn out to have been consistently wrong on all points, with the possible exception of New England winning the AFC. Chicago isn't going anywhere, Schaub and Co. appear to know both what they are and are not capable of, as well as how to use that to actually win games, and Romo, well, even without Terry Glenn, it looks like last year's success was no fluke. 'He's too young' is frankly a stupid thing to say. Now, granted, the longer Newman is out, the scarier it is going to get. And Ellis needs to suck it up and get on the field. And, ouch, losing Ferguson for the year is going to cause problems. But they are going to be ok, and I would have a pretty hard time taking Chicago over the Cowboys if the two teams were to play, especially in the playoffs. So, in all, the author is a doofus, and really, who cares what anyone in Austin thinks anyway? It's not like they have any professional teams, except for the Longhorns, so take the article for what it's worth, which ain't much.
