It *is* a trivial thing for me to whine about, isn't it. Oh well. It still makes me mad that our city's NFL history is hanging in the rafters and displayed in showcases in inbred Nashville. So, screw the Titans, screw Neckville, screw Bud Adams, and screw your little rolly-eyes icon.
had players I like. Won. Of course there is home town thrown into it and they know how to play that to keep me a loyal fan. The Texans don't. Theres a lot of old Oilers fans just wandering around lost that they could convert.
And that is the essence of the beast. Marketing becomes *much* easier when that right there happens for an extended period. Example: Rocks were King of Houston during the mid '90s. Nowadays (but quickly fading without a massive turnaround), many mediots refer to Houston as a "baseball town" (never thought I'd see the day). The Astros' marketing, even considering the minor league presence in CC and Austin and the whole caravan thing, sucks. Hard. Winning made Houston, at least in the perception of some, a "baseball town." And winning, should it ever actually happen, will be the best marketing tool the Texans have in their limited arsenal.
it wasn't exactly directed at you. it was more at the Texans haters who think something like this is important. i understand the Oilers history thing, but the hell with it. we have a new team, time to make new history. the Titans can have their Warren Moon ceremony b/c you know, they've grown up with him and all.
What crappy graphics. Carr doesn't look like that. He should be flat on his back with a dazed look on his face.
Sports franchises build fans in one or more of three primary ways: 1. Being the local team on TV - especially if the fans are young. This is more difficult now than years ago when there wasn't as easy access to non-local games though. 2. Winning 3. Putting an entertaining product on the field/court
Thrown into it? Come on. You are a fan because you are from Houston. That's it. I know that's it for me. I didn't pick to be a Rockets fan any more than I picked my hair color. I was born into it. I think you would be a big Texans fan if you lived in Houston.
I was actually settling down with the idea until they had that ceremony and retired Moon's jersey in freaking Nashville. Just royally pissed me off. Probably a trivial thing, and we have our own football team now, but Warren Moon did not play in freaking Neckville. Neither did Matthews, at least not when it counted. I hope the Texans wipe the floor with Bud Adams's Titans this year, in both venues.
But that's *not* it for *everyone*. And that's OK. That's how *I* am, but I don't expect everyone else to feel that way.
Touché. That was indeed a polarizing moment in the trivial world of NFL fandom in Houston. But that is sooooooo 2006.
They aren't Houston fans. **** em. And you wouldn't even care about VY had he played for another college.
I disagree. Maybe so, but there *are* folks in Houston who follow the guy solely because he's a Houstonian. At the very *least*, a few thousand alumni of Whatever-It-Was High School where he played. Me, I lose interest when they don't play for a Houston team. Houston's *huge*. There are people playing all over the place from Houston; I don't have time to follow all of them. I'll stick with my Astros, Texans, and Rockets.
I sense your anger cause he plays for another city and the city of Houston still loves him, cause Houston loves their sons. Bob McNair can take away Vince Young from the Texans and Bud Adams can take away the Oilers from Houston but I believe nothing can take away your hatred and jealousy. VINCE FOREVER!!! HAHAHAHA
Follow him all they want. But if they want his team to beat the Texans then they can painfully burn in hell.
Sorry, they will be in that place where Oiler blue skys are. Cause they are truly the original team, because their father is Darth Vader, doesn't mean that Luke Skywalker is the bad guy. Luke is the hero and Vince is the hero.
