This is what the anti-marriage equality crowd says when they realize they have no logical argument against gay marriage.

They have no logical argument but they are still repulsed by the idea of two men getting married to one another.

So, all of a sudden, when none of these people have ever felt so before, "government should not be in the marriage business." RR, you didn't say that before gay marriage came into play and you didn't think it. You didn't think of it, because you had no reason to. You accepted the idea that marriages were sanctioned by the government, that there were tax issues to do with it, that it was a legal status, that someone could go down to the courthouse and get married, you knew a license was needed. And yet you never opposed any of that until gays got involved. Then, ick, let's get out of this business! Gross!

You can't accept two guys or two women marrying each other so suddenly we need a new word for it: "civil unions!" (Thanks judoka) That way we don't have to say married. And "government should get out of the marriage business" so it doesn't accidentally touch any gay people.

Changing the word = separate but equal
Getting government out of the marriage business in this context is akin to government getting out of the public school business because suddenly blacks were allowed to attend.

Bigotry is bigotry and discrimination is discrimination.

And this "let's just get out of it altogether" dodge is only that. A dodge.

Um, you seem to have accidentally left out that genocide we did that allowed God to give us this country in the first place.

I have no problem with homosexuals getting married if that is what they want to call it, at the same time I think if churches and other religious institutions don't want to recognize it them then they shouldn't be forced to to.

As I said I think all state sanctioned marriages be they hetero or homosexual should be "civil union" since that is what the state is sanctioning. A union under civil law.

Bottom line though the terminology doesn't matter that much to me.

Obviously it does or you wouldn't care to make the distinction.

I agree. I also think that if religious institutions don't want to recognize that Satan is lord they shouldn't be forced to.

Nobody of any serious standing has EVER suggested religions should be forced to do ANYTHING to do with gay marriage.

    Strawman much?

    Exactly.

We never needed a new word for government sanctioned marriages (i.e. all marriages) until gays got involved.

Maybe we should have a new word for Asian marriages too. Anybody icked out by those?
