His pacing isn’t good especially at the beginning. This has been a standard Biden thing. He’ll rush and often rather than pause to let the applause ring out he’ll speak over it to the next point.
It has been better than I expected so far. Uncomfortable Republicans are just biding their time so they can start piling on the spin and bringing up distractions.
That was overall good and better than expected. There were some pacing issues and stumbles but that was to be expected. It was much harsher than I expected and I’m surprised how much he mentioned “my predecessor”. I’m not sure that was the right thing to do or in this particular forum but given how much Republicans are going after him even in this speech, that’s where we are at. His back and forth with hecklers he really seemed to enjoy. I think Republicans would’ve been better off just letting him speak without interruption as it seems to both energize them and just add to the image that the GOP is made up of peoples who are classless and have no decorum. In some way parts of this speech seemed like a PM speech in the lower house of the British Parliament. With a give and take between the PM and political opponents.
I think it was a campaign kickoff event. It's why the incumbent has an advantage. He did go hard at his opposition. He slammed Marjorie on the spot. I feel he knew it was coming and was prepared, so it wasn't really impromptu, but it does show he is a good campaigner and wise enough to prep for that.
It was a good choice to put a young attractive Senator as the Republican response. She does seem nervous.
The rebuttal took an odd note when she mentioned future Americans having fewer rights. The right that was taken away was from the Republicans not Democrats. This lady seems to be trying to run her own campaign. It's also way over-performative in the delivery. It's high school public speaking level.
She’s playing to outrage without presenting a Solution. Biden did the right thing to take it on and call out Republicans to work with him.
Also strange for her to bring up mortgages and child care without any policy, after Biden offered specifics about what he would do relating to those same issues.
This response is what is exactly what was expected of current GOP rhetoric. A lot of fear mongering with no actual solutions.
I'm not sure what drug they give him for his pacing to speed up. Something like caffeine without the shakes. Maybe he spent few days inside that healing tank from Mandalorian.
