Deke is an amazing person. To hear the stories about those individuals makes me proud to be an American...proud to be a human being for that matter.
...When America serves others in this way, we show the strength and generosity of our country. These deeds reflect the character of our people. The greatest strength we have is the heroic kindness, courage, and self sacrifice of the American people. You see this spirit often if you know where to look -- and tonight we need only look above to the gallery. Dikembe Mutombo grew up in Africa, amid great poverty and disease. He came to Georgetown University on a scholarship to study medicine -- but Coach John Thompson got a look at Dikembe and had a different idea. Dikembe became a star in the NBA, and a citizen of the United States. But he never forgot the land of his birth -- or the duty to share his blessings with others. He has built a brand new hospital in his hometown. A friend has said of this good hearted man: "Mutombo believes that God has given him this opportunity to do great things." And we are proud to call this son of the Congo our fellow American. ... Transcript from Bush's speech (in a section about AIDS/Africa)
Deke is awesome! I am very proud to be a Houston Rockets fan tonight, with such a great player, and human being, on our team! It made me teary eyed.
Yeah let him know Mutombo's leading the league in Rebounds per 48 minutes and still pimpin the league at age 45.
Oh. Watched American Idol (first time ever btw... kinda funny from Memphis.. dude lookin' like Castro was pimp!) and left it on Fox...
Congrats to Dikembe, a true humanitarian, a great human being, a great basketball player, representing Houston and the Rockets well. There needs to be more guys like this in sports and otherwise. Now hurry up and get to San Antonio.
I disagree with a lot of political views that the President has towards the world, but he is no coward. The majority of the nation has disagreed with the man and he's held his ground. Cowards run. He hasn't. That doesn't mean I'm protecting his politics, I'm just saying he is no coward.
i just thought bringing all those "guests" was another way he wouldnt have to talk about important stuff. you know? make it seem like all this is good stuff happening....throughout the speech he used "scare techniques"........he needs to admit he's wrong, and he's doing his best to clean it up. then i'll respect him a little bit... im sorry to bring it up. this doesnt belong in the GARM. im sorry...but shouldnt have said he was a coward w/o explaining why. and i was replyin to another post anyways. we can both agree that deke is the man....go rockets
