Or has reconciled enough historical speeches against circumstances, motives, ideology, abilities and outcomes to know better.
Walker was trying to exorcise his past drunkenness and professional mediocrity by cashing in his dad's favor bank; world events exposed his ego, sense of destiny and belief in the "post-Vietnam syndrome" myth and made his simplistic and selfish fiscal policy unsustainable.
You mean cynical, jaded and beat down by obstruction? You can't be that and hold the position of Leader of the Free World. You have to shape the national psyche and frame the national agenda, define our values and always hold hope for a better future. Otherwise there is no alternative but regression to individual short-term self-interest. We have to have a direction we all can believe in or we devolve into chaos where the sum is less than the whole. It's socialism, where we as a people work together to build a better future that defines America and created our successes, building schools, highways and ports, supporting science that gave us the digital world, cleaner air and water, safer food, rule of law etc. etc. etc. It's a Republican Congress holding back optimism, promoting fear, and destructing the real American values. The Presidents job is the vision thing, so listen to it that way rather than as a nitty gritty detail of legislative proposals. Sort of like listening to a sermon and letting it inspire you to be a better person even though you know you can't actually live up to it.
You realize that he used numbers and data, right? That would indicate the "spin" is coming from somewhere else.
No, it's not worth an hour. If it was a 5 minute speech then yeah ok. But an hour? Nah. I have better things to do.
