with all these picks and talent, the lines still can't perform? Well, at least the D line? I put that on the coaches..
Also in injuries don't forget how terrible it's been to lose Charles Spencer because Ephraim Salaam has been pretty awful to say the least but then again he came here to be a backup anyways so you can't fault him.
The D-Line really baffles me, but so does the play-calling. Maybe it's just me, but it seems we put a 4-man rush out there EVERY play. Though that should make there be more linebackers and DBs back in coverage but they're still getting torched. If they're gonna get torched anyways might as well mix in blitzes to get some pressure on the QB at least.
OT - But I saw Carr in there for Carolina today, man does he suck. It was 3rd and 15 and he throws a dump pass to Deshawn Foster, this guy is gunshy or what.
I picked injuries. I don't believe in curses but there is some bad karma going down as well. AJ going down really screwed the pooch as we were looking good till then. From there it was a trickle down. Sure Green was never going to be the back of old, but he looked pretty good (better than any back since Davis' heydey - where is he). I'd go so far as to say he's permanently damaged goods now. SWchaub is turning in to Carr from the constant drubbing and the lack of go to guy like AJ. Throw in no runnung game and it will take a masterful coaching job and a total defensive evolution for the Texans to escapa a losing season. 'Tis such a shame, AJ stays healthy and others gain cnfidence and it could have been an early exit from the play offs.
Even fully healthy, I don't think we're a playoff team...but I have to believe we'd have at least 1 more win, maybe 2 (Tenn. and Atl) right now if Dre had been healthy these last few weeks. Imagine if we were 5-3 right now, none of this second-guessing would be going on. You take out a guy like Andre Johnson, by far the best player on the team and one of the best in the league, and the only big play threat in the offense...and you're going to struggle. Schaub looked like a pro-bowler those first two weeks...but since has looked like only a slight upgrade to Carr. Dre's not the only reason for this, but things would be much different with him. That being said, we've still got issues: - the o-line is almost as pathetic as ever. - still haven't found any answers at safety - playcalling is questionable, namely on defense not bringing more than a 4 man rush most of the time. I can't blame Kubiak for the offensive play-calling...he's limited with a ****ty o-line and without Dre really can't open up. - Ahman Green has been a big letdown. Not that there would be any holes for him to run through, but still...
The secondary other then Dunta is just crap. The second AJ went down so did this team he looked poised for a monster season too. The other injuries especially McKinney. I wish we could have seen what this team would have looked like with a healthy Glenn Earl, Chris Taylor, and especially Charles Spencer. Our secondary, RB and OL has been garbage the three aforementioned would have really helped.
we'd be at least 5-3 with a healthy team but still a ways from being elite. if these injuries force the front office to finally upgrade the o-line perhaps it was worth it. that little swagger we had during and after the carolina game sure was fun though.
If we don't fix the OL and get a consistant running game going, Shaub will turn into another Carr. Carr didn't come to the Texans with "happy feet" wanting to consistantly check down, but over time he developed a lot of bad habbits. I think Shaub is a better QB, but I can see him start to develop some bad habits. Even the mighty VY would be horrible in this offense, see Tennessee. At least they have a good D and a running game. I don't even want to discuss our problems on D.
How many times were the Texans QBs sacked yesterday? I'm not convinced the Oline is the main problem. Is it for the QB or is it for the running game? The bigger problem to me right now is that there is nobody to run or catch the ball.
I keep telling myself that we're 2-0 with AJ and 1-5 without him. I know some may think it's silly to blame this season on one player being out, but when that player is the best player on the team, it HAS to make a difference, right? RIGHT??? Tuesday can't get here soon enough. Come on, Rockets. Save us from this loser mentality the Astros and Texans have given us.
The reason why our quarterbacks are getting killed is because we can't run the football, and opposing defenses know we can't run the football, so they play the pass, smother our receivers and go straight for the quarterback. That's why you're seeing so many interceptions and so many QB knockdowns. It's true that we don't have a legitimate running back without Ahman Green (thankfully Echemandu looked somewhat promising yesterday), but the much bigger issue is that the offensive line is sucking pretty bad at run blocking, and that starts with the center (the McKinney injury). We need a running game badly, but sometimes you can get by even without a running game if you have a good offensive line (case in point, Tom Brady throwing 5 TDs by halftime last week even though all his backs were injured). This, and the subpar coaching as evidenced by the hideous number of mistakes this team makes, are the two biggest reasons why we're 3-5 right now and headed in the wrong direction.
let's just be thankful schaub isn't getting hit nearly as often since carr's departure fixed the pass protection...
nobody claimed it did. Some of us realized no matter the circumstances carr would still suck. And he is proving it in Carolina
repeated posters termed carr the offense's biggest problem; he drew the ire of a very large majority. his release was greeted with cheers, relief and a renewed interest in the team... i'm not defending david carr; nor am i condemning matt schaub, btw (though i will say he's unfortunately not as tough as carr). i'm merely dropping the appropriate, "no ****" on all those who seem blindsided by how bad the team is because they couldn't take their focus (or anger) off carr.
