That's very interesting. http://www.aolnews.com/2007/08/13/mark-cuban-does-not-oppose-tanking/ Cuban said similar things at the last MIT analytics conference. Tanking is a very effective way of getting better, especially for a team in the Rockets' position.
Exactly. I heard it from his own mouth when i was watching the conference. It was a very interesting take at the time but I agreed with him then......and I agree with him now. It doesn't benefit anyone to be the 8th seed.
Unless of course you don't believe trading for Gasol and Nene at that cost would truly make us a contender.
I don't think that move alone would have. But it would have opened the path to more moves. For one thing, it would have made Houston a more attractive place for other stars to come play.
Yeah - this was my fear a few years back, that Morey would acquire all of these solid role-players condemning us to our current fate. It's not a great future.
When you try to win, you try to STACK the team with talent. If one of the main stars goes down or isnt part of the team anymore, then they're left with solid role players - because the team is STACKED like how fans want. Does it make sense to go from Yao-Scola-Lowry = Championship, to Dalembert-Scola-Lowry = TANK? Because the main cog isnt there anymore, everyone else has to give lackluster/less-than-professional effort? Nothing left to do than to have a FIRESALE of all decent players. But its just lame how when Yao (and McGrady) goes down, it means EVERYONE ELSE has to go down WITH him. Scola and Lowry's life fortunes are tied into Yao's fragile foot
Obviously the solution is to have open tryouts and let whining fans attempt to beat out the current players on the roster... Then have these so-called GM's on the board make all Rockets front office transactions...Problem solved!!!
