AMEN! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of all this tanking talk! I would rather have a team that works hard and finishes .500, than one that tanks and expects a saviour from the draft!

I wish he owned the Rockets, he is an owner who doesn't just talk the talk, he also walks the walk.

People always hate winners, guys who don't go along with the crowd, people who acheive and don't give a crap what folks think or say about them.

Much respect for Mark Cuban from me, the guy is comitted to doing everything it takes to win.

You have to admit though he's an annoying piece. And it wasn't until recently that he won and could call himself a winner.

The hate for me stemmed from even before our playoff series against them. Dude was just annoying and his constant whining changed the way the refs called the game.

Still, I wouldn't mind having him replace Les.

Funny how virtually everyone chose to overlook this fact.

It's not just that - the entire reasoning behind that trade was suspect from the beginning yet nobody was willing to question Les & CD about making this move. And given CD's poor track record up to that point, following that flawed blueprint set this franchise up for the situation it which it now finds itself mired. All Les & Morey have managed to do is tack 4 (and now 5) more wasted years onto CD's tally of wasted years.

Ya most of the negativity stems for wanting the Rockets to suck. How dare DM and Les try their best to put a roster out that could contend for the playoffs. Sheesh!

What most people don't understand is that tanking for 1 year doesn't usually do the trick. Teams like the Bulls, Clippers, Timberwolves, Sonics (Thunder) sucked for a while before they got their franchise players. That's how you get Noah/Rose, KD/Westbrook, Griffin/Gordon/10 other lottery picks, Love/Rubio/Williams, etc

Yes, the franchise was owned by the late George Maloof, Sr. from 1979 to 1982. He purchased the team for $9 million, I believe. George Maloof, Sr. passed away in 1980. At that time, the Maloof family also owned the Sacramento Kings and in 1981 the Maloofs watched the Rockets advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in the team's history in 1981. In fact, Houston's 1981 Finals appearance coupled with the Kings advancement to the 2002 Western Conference Finals makes the Maloof family the only ownership group in NBA history to take two different franchises to the Western Conference Finals. George Maloof, Sr. passed away in 1980 and Joe and Gavin Maloof, who were only in their mid-20's at the time, took over responsibility for the Rockets along with their mother, Colleen, their two younger brothers, George, Jr. and Phil, and their sister, Adrienne. The Maloofs sold the Rockets in 1982 to auto dealer Charlie Thomas who sold the team in 1993 to Les Alexander.

Yes. I, too, want to WIN NOW. So does everyone else on this board, and if wishing made it so, we'd be in great shape. Given that we can't have WIN NOW, our next best option is WIN SOON, and tanking is the shortest, surest path to that outcome. Avoiding the painful but necessary process of rebuilding is the surest path to mediocrity, 9th seeds and WIN NEVER.

This is a very deep draft, sammy. Very deep.

The criticism for Les is the same criticism we had for Drayton. At some point, you have to know what you have and be honest about it. The Astros fooled themselves for a few years believing they were more than they were...the Rockets are doing that now. Morey has been pretty clear that he thinks losing is the quicker fix...but that he's under direction to win WHILE rebuilding. I think that's a pipe dream...and I think Morey knows it.

    What we're doing isn't working.

I don't think this team is a playoff team this year. I'm not sure if we are better than teams like the Warriors and Kings this year and I'd be surprised if we finished ahead of Portland, Denver or Memphis so I don't see us getting in.

If you mean draft one of the greatest players of all time and luck out with health and longevity, then sure.

But Im pretty sure he let a bunch of pieces of a championship team go and now they look embarrassing.

The differences between Alexander and Cuban are minor. Its luck more than anything.

Other than Alexander not being a huge douche who hypocritically whines only when it benefits him, then I agree.

Basketball-wise, both have run their teams very well.

Drayton also completely mismanaged the "non-rebuilding" process. He made dumb signing likes Carlos Lee that crippled the payroll and let the farm shrivel.

Les is avoiding blatant mistakes like that while avoiding a full rebuild. Most contracts on the team are flexible and the players are young.

And the fact that we got pretty close to trading for DWill and Gasol/Nene shows this isn't a pipe dream, even though tanking is perhaps the better option (though not ideal).
