Hi, my name is hlmbasketball and I can't read.

Go and read the article again?

Morey pretty clearly said that they would take the roster into account when drafting this year.

The height comment was based on drafting in general.
And it's totally right - if height is the only thing lacking, then (with pick #25) you need to think seriously about drafting that guy.

I don't see the Rockets drafting an undersized 2/3 this year - ESPECIALLY not after reading that article.

will be a massive bonus if that's the case, hope we are not banking on it though.

Still think we need an aggressive scorer from the wing. Bonzi with a jumpshot and some fuel left in the tank.

    DrNuegebauer, not only can read but I can see, and I see that you have your nose up Daryl Morey's ASSSSSSSSSSSS!! I'm just going off of what Daryl stated in the chronicle, which was;

Although the Rockets are small off the bench, Morey said size at the perimeter positions is secondary to ability and skill set.

"Size is a factor for sure and one thing we lack in our backups in general, but I think you'll always take the better player who might be shorter," he said.

Now, I said that the way that the Rockets are structured, we do not need another short player, even if he is skilled!! If a tall wing player is not there, then draft a tall big. For example, stupid. If CDR , Rush, or any other wing they wanted with size is gone, then look at a Robin Lopez, or simular player. But no more 6'3" combo guards, 6'7" or 6'8" , with shoes, power forwards. We need length!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And again, why would you draft a player if he is small. That player is going to be on your roster for the next 3 years. So, why use a roster spot on another short player. We all agree outside of you that this team needs size.

Of course we all agree this team needs size. DrNuegebauer would agree with that too. However, size doesn't help if it doesn't come with some talent. As to why draft a player if he's small just because he has talent - you need look no further than guys in the league like Chris Paul, Allen Iverson, Mike Conley, Damon Stoudamire, T.J. Ford, Gilbert Arenas, Tony Parker, Monta Ellis, Steve Francis, Ben Gordon, Earl Boykins, and Jameer Nelson. All of those guys are or have been very productive guards in the NBA. Most of them are under 6 foot tall. None of them are taller than 6'3 and those who are in the 6'3 range are shooting guards. This is without going back in time to point out Hall of Fame players like Tiny Archibald or Calvin Murphy.

    But what about big men?

Well, let's look at last years draft class. Obviously Greg Oden and Al Horford are the two best big men of the class and should be for a long time (assuming Oden overcomes his injuries). But after that, the next big men taken were the 6-10 Brandan Wright at 8. The 6-11 Joakim Noah at 9. And the 7 ft Spencer Hawes at 10. Yet who were the two best big men of the 07 class after Horford? 6-8 Carl Landry, taken at 31 and 6-7 PF Jared Dudley taken at 22.
Would you really rather have Spencer Hawes?

In 2006, legit 7 footers Patrick O'Bryant and Saer Sene went 9 and 10 respectively. 6-11 Hilton Armstrong went 12th.

6-7 Paul Milsap went 47th. 6-7 Leon Powe went 49th. Would you rather have Patrick O'Bryant?

Or we could just talk about a guy like Carlos Boozer who slipped to the second round because people didn't think that at 6'8 he was big enough to play PF in the NBA. Or maybe Ben Wallace, who was overlooked for years because people didn't think he was big enough to play center. Or if we want to go back in time some we could talk about Dennis Rodman or the ultimate little big man, Charles Barkley.

You have absolutely no argument. You take the best player available. You hope that player has size, but if he doesn't, you take him anyway.

I'm going to give you a break. I know it's summertime and you are out of school right now and probably boared but I'm glad you brought up all those players, which lends more to my arguement. If we draft another 6'3" combo guard or 6'7" power forward, we are basically repeating what we have. If you are looking at the draft board and by #20 if 2 or 3 players whom you have targeted are not there, you immediately began looking to move out of that spot (trade). Why bring in another smallish player that is going to fail to match up in the play-offs? For instance, last year Ramon Sessions a 6'3" legitimate point guard, future starter, was there for the taking and we took Aaron Brooks, who is 5'10". Brooks will never, ever, ever, ever be a starter. Because of his size he will always be a 20 -30 minute per game player, a back up!! So my question again is why keep going that route?

Is it just that you do not undestand what SHOOORTER means. I know it's summertime and that little yellow bus has stop running, so your mother is letting you stay at home and play on the computer. Well listen. Shorter in basketball termonology means that you have less height than the average player at your position. Whiiiiich thhhhe RRRRRooockets haaaaave eeeeeeeeennnough ooooof!! Mr. Morey said, height is not a priority, as much as skills. Which sounds like uh, the second coming of Aaron Brooks. So before you say someone can't read, you must first learn to comprehend.

Sorry for not updating this yet y'all; I'll try to get to it. I haven't even been around for over 20 days. Here's a short recap as to why:
    • I have been unemployed
    • I finally have a job interview (tomorrow)
    • And a shot at a darn good internship (Astros)
    • I've moved (not anticipated)
    • I've driven to Austin for a wedding
    • I haven't done a backflip

I'll try to get to it in the next week or so; it's been busy around here!
