"Big Sneaker" ruling on blood sneakers

    https://althouse.blogspot.com/2021/04/i-feel-like-its-****ed-up-they-have-so.html

    April 9, 2021
"I feel like it’s ****ed up they have so much power they can get shoes cancelled. Freedom of expression gone out the window."[/paste:font]

Said Lil Nas X, quoted in "Lil Nas X Satan Shoes will be recalled as part of settlement with Nike/Nike sued MSCHF Product Studio for trademark infringement over the black-and-red, devil-themed sneakers" (The Guardian).

Can't you make shoes out of shoes — decorate them, bedazzle them — and then sell them? We won't get an official legal answer, because Lil Nas settled the case. Nike retains the threat of litigation over anyone who tries to use their shoes as a foundation for a fashion/art project.

Lil Nas loses nothing other than the opportunity to fund litigation to establish the principle he speaks as though he cares about. But the shoes that were made — all 666 pairs of them — were sold in the first minute, and anyone who bought the shoes can now get a refund of the purchase price — $1018 — but no one will do that, because they're notorious, and they are clearly more valuable now that they've become so famous. I see on eBay that a pair recently sold for $5,000, so only an ignoramus would participate in the recall.

Did anyone ever really believe that devil-themed sneakers were outrageous? Kids wear devil costumes at Halloween. The devil is not a big enough villain to make anything edgy in 2021... or in 1951.

But Big Sneaker put its foot down, and ooh!, it's almost illicit to possess these things.

NeRF, why don't you get @adoo to simply change the thread title to something like [OFFICIAL] FOX NEWS BLAH BLAH BLAH THREAD or FOX NEWS IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE THREAD

then @tinman wouldn't have anything to complain about or mock, and you'd be free to just post Tucker Carlson tweets all day to your heart's content

    just a thought ;)

not sure how making the only profitable newspaper in existence more like the New York Times or Washington Post is going to help it much

"Inside the Fight for the Future of The Wall Street Journal":

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/10/business/media/wall-street-journal-murdoch.html

Inside the Fight for the Future of The Wall Street Journal
A special team led by a high-level manager says Rupert Murdoch’s paper must evolve to survive. But a rivalry between editor and publisher stands in the way.

    By Edmund Lee
    April 10, 2021

The Wall Street Journal is a rarity in 21st-century media: a newspaper that makes money. A lot of money. But at a time when the U.S. population is growing more racially diverse, older white men still make up the largest chunk of its readership, with retirees a close second.

“The No. 1 reason we lose subscribers is they die,” goes a joke shared by some Journal editors.

Now a special innovation team and a group of nearly 300 newsroom employees are pushing for drastic changes at the paper, which has been part of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire since 2007. They say The Journal, often Mr. Murdoch’s first read of the day, must move away from subjects of interest to established business leaders and widen its scope if it wants to succeed in the years to come. The Journal of the future, they say, must pay more attention to social media trends and cover racial disparities in health care, for example, as aggressively as it pursues corporate mergers.

That argument has yet to convince executives in the top ranks of the company.

The Journal got digital publishing right before anyone else. It was one of the few news organizations to charge readers for online access starting in 1996, during the days of dial-up internet. At the time, most other publications, including The New York Times, bought into the mantra that “information wants to be free” and ended up paying dearly for what turned out to be a misguided business strategy.

As thousands of papers across the country folded, The Journal, with its nearly 1,300-person news staff, made money, thanks to its prescient digital strategy. While that inoculated The Journal against the ravages wrought by an array of unlikely newcomers, from Craigslist to Facebook, it also kept the paper from innovating further.

There were no riots! It was the “Summer of Love!”
Fake news media needs to stand out there and get pelted by the “peaceful protesters”.

This is such a ridiculous take because it basically says that if you aren't as vile as Hitler then any criticism is a joke. It's also a shame when a media source is disingenuous with the edits of a political figure when they really don't need to be as there is a mountain of other vile things that figure has done to earn other criticism.

DeSantis is a governor which should have helped him with it being one of more popular and bi-partisan daily behaviors in a partisan elected official role, but in just a few short years has already earned his stripes as a corrupt political hack.

No he's not Hitler, but it doesn't mean that he's a good guy who is in government for the progress of everyday Americans. The guy is a joke, and corrupt. He should be one of the least popular governors in the country, but instead that lack of seriousness about governance jolts him to the top of the pile for the MAGA Republican party of 2021.

How people are actually proud to be Republicans is beyond me. Enjoy and defend Ron DeSantis all you guys want. Have at it... I'm sure it won't come back to haunt you later on like it didn't with Republican flag bearers of the past like W. Bush, Newt Gingrich, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump.

Does any company service all communities in Florida (wealthy and poor) and also have locations throughout the state of Florida closer to more seniors (who were most at risk from Covid)?

Only NeRF would attempt to find a way to defend this.
