I think the point is that scoring efficiency is not as great an indicator of how much a player helps his team win as people seem to think.
T -H --I ---S ---- -----I ------S ------- --------A --------- ----------T -----------E ------------S -------------T
Really? Maggette has always been one of the most efficient players in the league (ask DD or Leeb). My pain problem with him is he doesn't defend and he doesn't pass. At all. In fact he makes JT look like Nash. So while his effciency is sky high his team's effciency becomes lower because of him.
Actually its a good indicator. However as with all things you have to take into account other factors as well. There is no single "win" stat.
Of course with Maggette's ball hog tendencies every game will be a tighter played game, so go figure...
As great as Maggette's efficiency is, I've always considered him a black hole on offense. He reminds me of a JR Smith at times - he can win you games and he can lose you games because of his shot selection. Once he gets the ball, its almost a give that he will never pass it off.
Actually, they take pretty much exactly the same number of "early" shots as Martin. 40% of each of their shots come within the 1st 10 seconds of the 24 second clock for the last couple years. So, it seems Maggette "leaks out" about just as much as Martin. And Maggette's team's "clutch stats" (5 minutes left, game within 5 points) with him on the floor has generally been negative so it's not like his "off the dribble" game has resulted in much in the "tighter played game" despite your theory.
