You might not be surprised to learn that Stevie now leads the Rockets in +/- by a fair margin (surpassing Chuck Hayes). I'm starting to look forward to seeing him take over the starting job.

I didnt realize that Jason Williams and Antoine Walker were the reason that the Heat won the title and not Shaq and Wade.

Hmm Steve Francis is going to be on TNT during the halftime of the Miami vs Portland game?

You are right. The Refs and a coast through the pathetic Eastern Conference were the reasons the Heat won.

I already stated earlier that I should have originally said a big guy. I don't think there is much of a difference between a power forward and a center nowadays anyways.

well...if they're both dominant, i guess it doesn't matter. I think the original poster was saying that nowadays the center position is starting to be obsolete. Good teams no longer really need an all-star center anymore since the game has gone faster.

I do agree that this is a guards league which everyone know by now, it doesn't matter if its a point guard or a shooting guard and the rules of nba favors them and hurts 7+ players like Yao which is why today Yao cannot be like hakeem and make his teammates better but saying having Tmac and Yao will not do much and we have to have a allstar caliber "point guard" is wrong! ALL WE NEED IS A CONSISTENT THIRD SCORER at this time whether its a point guard or power forward it does not matter.

You are wrong. It was Payton/Posey.

    I hope you are right.

But the more I look at that list of other point guards in our conference, the more I worry. :(

So now we just proved this thread's thesis, you can't win without a good PG.

So unless Tmac be the ball handler for us, we have no chance.

No one position is more important than any other. Why would it be? That's dumb. Was shooting guard the most important position because Jordan was the best player? No.

How do you explain all the Western Conference contenders having good to excellent point guards?

And all the bad teams having pretty much no point guard talent.

I understand and would like to say that you my friend should not be worrying about this and SHOULD be worrying about our oh so awesome coach Rick Adelman not giving enough chance to other PGs on the bench (a great example would be last nights games in second half)

our problem is the pg spot and defensively in the paint. rockets play great covering the paint as a team thanks to Tom Thibodeaux (not jvg), but olajuwon covered the paint single handedly.

yao is not half as quick as olajuwon was.

Calderon or Jason Williams are the guys we have to look for, i´m tired of saying this, Calderon won´t sing for a lot of money and is a very underrated player.

That also bugs me. Winning these games with Reefer is only a short term solution. I don't know why Steve did not play more yesterday.

Funny. Then.. what was it intended to be?

I'm all for upgrading from Rafer, don't get me wrong - but its highly doubtful we are going to pull a rabbit from a hat and magically get an All-Star PG to play for us this season. Unless the Nets go for Rafer - Kidd straight-up.

With the exception of the 2003 Pistons, every championship team since 1990 would beg to differ. The game hasn't changed that much beyond illegal defenses being allowed and hand-checking not. And Dwayne Wade and Shaq did not happen that long ago.

Sometimes I wish this NBA is like the dynasty mode of NBA live. You can assign an assistant and train players throughout the season to improve their ratings. Man I'd single out Rafer and train him all season and by May, he'd be Steve Nash.

    Denver - Allen Iverson
    Golden State - Baron Davis
    Phoenix - Steve Nash
    San Anotonio - Tony Parker
    Utah - Deron Williams
    New Orleans - Chris Paul
    Dallas - Devin Harris
    Los Angeles - Derek Fisher

    Houston - Rafer Alston

    that's down right scary!
