What people fail to realize is that there is not one coach who is able to do both, overachieve with one team, and then win a title with a great team.

The reason for this is because of the mindsets the players have. The Lakers players have a totally different mindset than Philly players or whoever.

It would take a mental mastermind to be able to please the different kind of players that both teams have.

Phil by far is the best mastermind in the NBA. I think his teams would be capable of overachieving on a bad team merely because of his ability to get his teams to play their asses off when it matters.

Also, Larry Brown does not have good people skills. Many of his players in the past have not liked him. How in the hell would Brown have dealt with Kobe vs Shaq last year? Brown had to trade half of his team last year because his players were unhappy for various reasons. Phil was able to keep his Chi teams intact as well as the current Laker teams. With the exception of Glen Rice.

Brown is barely able to handle Iverson's ego, there is no way he could handle Shaq and Kobe.

I also have a really hard time believing the best coach in the NBA is ringless.

Bottom line in the NBA is winning. Games aren't played for moral victories.

Also, why hasn't Brown been able to really have a stable coaching position? He has been recycled like used toilet paper.

The Yankees did not have one player on the team who would be considered the best at his position, except Mariano Rivera.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the Yankees always have the deepest pitching staff in the league every year, as well as Steinbrenner's bottomless wallet.

There's no way to compare a baseball manager and a basketball coach. Two completely different games and coaching philosophies

ok well thats too much to read, but on the phil jackson thing (sorry if already mentioned).....all i can say is PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS......perhaps the biggest accumulation of talent over the past yrs in NBA history.....shouldnt these guys have at least a finals appearance? Yes MJ is the greatest, Yes Shaq/Kobe are unstoppable, but dont all of the good teams have somebody? Its knowing what to do with the talent that makes you a good coach....y didnt don chaney lead us to the promise land? all rudy added to the team was a bunch of role players that complemented dream, but that seemed to work right? thats all phil is doing, and he happens to be damn good at it, so stop bashin the guy because he works with greatness
