I agree with this. Let them focus on stopping Scola, meanwhile people still don't know who Landry is because he's not starting. It amazes me how much lack of respect many of these rockets get. On TMZ a few months ago they had The Chuck Wagon, and nobody knew who he was on the show. They introduced him as a guy who gets NO playing time, and a virtual nobody. Speak softly and carry a big stick.
i also have great interest in seeing what dorsey could do to contribute for this team. this hardy guy must show his progress both in willpower and deeper understanding of the game
Keep it as is. We are playing well with our starters and with Landry coming off the bench we are dominating the other teams bench. He is getting his minutes so it doesn't really matter if he starts or not as far as the minutes go.
LMAO SHOW ME PROOF THAT HE IS A BETTER DEFENDER, YOU'RE JUST TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS. LANDRY IS A WAY BETTER DEFENDER, GRABBING REBOUNDS DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE A BETTER DEFENDER. ANSWER ME THIS, WHY IS SCOLA ALWAYS GETTING LIT UP BY THE LIKES OF ALDRIGE, DIRK, DUNCAN, AND OTHER FORWARDS. LANDRY ON THE OTHER HAND HOLDS HIS OWN, AND DOESN'T RESORT TO FLOPPING AS HIS DEFENSE.
Through 7 games in the 2009-10 season Carl Landry has a defensive rtg of 109. Scola's is 105. (Lower is better). Last season, Landry was 104 and Scola was 102. Landry has improved significantly on the defensive end from his first two seasons when he made tons of mistakes and was a foul machine, but so far Scola is still consistently better than him on the defensive end, although the difference isn't much. I will definitely agree that at this point he is a clearly superior offensive player.
I don't get that clearly. He has been phenomenal in those games. Scola had bad games too. He will bounce back. They are different in the way how they attack the basket. Landry does more damage with his explosiveness and the And1, Scola on the other hand has the hook and spin moves reminiscent of a small Yao. He can get his shots off most of the time what which is not exactly pretty but effective.
I think we will see more combinations of Scola & Landry playing together. In last night's game, RA went with these two down the stretch. I noticed a few plays where they were both posting on opposite sides of each other. A coach must balance his first & second units, don't want to have too many or not enough scorers in either rotation. Landry could easily be a starter, but I like him being the go-to guy with the 2nd unit. Scola is our best rebounder and that's one area that the Rockets must stay close to win ball games.
That's really the difference -- the explosiveness. Their offensive styles are quite different, with Luis being much more of a fundamental post/back to the basket type player than Carl. That's a stylistic thing, and this really doesn't take away from the fact that Scola is himself pretty good on the offensive end, even better than the perception of most. But the fact is that in the grand sum of things, Carl is just flat out better at putting the ball in the basket, and his superior athleticism has a lot to do with it. His TS% (true shooting percentage) is almost 10 points higher than Scola's. He has actually always had a really high ORtg through his brief career, but this year he is doing it with a significantly higher usage rate (now that Yao is out of the picture). Normally efficiency should decrease with higher usage rate, but Landry's efficiency is actually higher as well. And no, I'm not arguing that he should start over Scola. I actually love him in this role, as a devastating sixth man type like Terry and Ginobili have been for the Mavericks and Spurs.
Landry has been beast so far in the season, but Scola isn't doing bad either. I think Landry works better with the energy team of lowry and budinger so that we keep our momentum up. As long as Scola is on the team, I don't see Landry starting in front of him.
Got you. I think it's a wash between those two. With Landry however, being the younger player and starting to assert himself more, I am not arguing for either one because either way we're good. Somewhat I can't imagine the Luister being as effective as Carl coming off the bench. Speaking of defense, I want to see Carl block some more shots.
im sorry but scola is not THAT good of a defensive player. he's ok but in my eyes at this point landry is playing better. i fdont think he needs to start, nor does budinger or lawry, however when he's having a good game our coach needs to recognize that and give him the minutes.
