Well, I don't care if you use cheats in a single player game - hell, it's between you and the PC. I couldn't care less. I was saying that because Wirt's Leg was a "cheat". It gave you access to the "secret cow level" in the game. There's a history behind the cow level and also a tie-in to Starcraft. Wirt's leg also shows up in Warcraft III and in WoW as weapons, I believe. If I remember, Wirt was some peg-legged kid. http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/quests/cow.shtml
I'm one of those that have been waiting like forever for Starcraft II. Heck, I wish they'd done all the development in secret, so they could have laid it on us "Out of the Blue," and we could have been spared all the frustration of trying to figure out when the damn thing's coming out.
Well the thing is BETA is coming out soon, so it gives you a chance to play the game kinda, all you have to to is go to the Blizzard website, create a profile on the new blizzard forum, but you need to register a game like, the old starcraft Cd key, and then you get the chance to receive BETA to play, depending if your computer is good.
I am not that impressed by Starcraft 2. The battle reports looks almost like the original Starcraft to me. You build your base, you scout, and you attack/defend. Of course that can be said about all RTS games, but there are subtle differences from game to game, such as the use of heroes in Warcraft. I don't really feel the differences between SC2 and SC, based on the battle reports. There will be all those new units and abilities, and new tactics involving these units, but I just don't see how it can surpass the expectation set on it by the original Starcraft. I do wish I am wrong though, and I do believe Blizzard has the potential to make me look like a fool.
If you think the heroes in war3 are subtle differences from sc, then you're not really a good RTS gamer. I'm not trying to knock you but if you're going to say there are "subtle" differences between war3 and sc then you have no idea what your talking about. war3 was waaaay more micro intensive. Here are five "subtle" difference between sc2 and sc from the top of my head. 1. The unlimited unit selection. 2. Auto mining and higher yield minerals. 3. 3 fin' D./terrain 4. Uh.. units? 5. More macro intense.
You're right I suck at RTS. I just casually play against friends in house or online, and there's not a lot of micros involved in the games. However for the 5 differences you mentioned, I don't see them as game changing except maybe for 3D graphics. They sounds more like something you would expect from an expansion pack. Of course each of these would change how you'd micro the game and strategy and all that stuff, but none of it is ground breaking. Well maybe I am expecting too much. Starcraft was the game that revolutionized the RTS genre, from simply overwhelming your opponents with more tanks like Red Alert, to carefully balancing your forces and tactically planning engages, which really brings the tactics component into the game. I am hoping for SC2 to redefine the genre again. Well I guess that is expecting too much. Anyway, I've been checking their website regularly for the past year or so and can't wait for it to come out.
Original sc is so great because of it's balance. There are countless openers you can begin with. Besides z v z, which is ling/muta (still u can do 1 hatch muta or an all in zling strat), all other matchups are unpredictable. You can't really "abuse" a unit and expect to win majority of the time. I'm pretty sure it'll take sc2 like 5 years to get balanced remotely close to the original.
I'm waiting for a game to get me back to gaming. I honestly haven't touched my game consoles for almost a year now. The only time I play videogames is with my DS (Adcanced Wars) once in a while or Sim City 3000. But Starcraft 2 could be that game that gets me back to gaming. Stradegy games are the only games that I see as worth playing at this age (24). I'm starting to get too old to play other games.
