StarCraft 2, the GOAT game, must get its own thread

I didn't really watch much of it last when it initially aired.

However, today my I'm at home all day since my daughter is running a fever and I got sucked into this marathon.

I guessed I won't be getting this game. A graphics upgrade doesn't really do it for me. I was hoping for a new race and a change in designs. I might pick it up months later when it hit the $30 mark. That's why I still play Unreal Tournament 99 and never did like UT2k4 or UT3.

I will patiently be waiting for Diablo III. Blizzard, don't disappoint me with that one.

 

Hahaha, It's cool I've done that many times when I had to go to rehab for coke and I ended up in a bible's study class...

Is anyone having probleming sending friend requests? Mine's greyed out whenever I'm trying to send friends requests.

 

I heard there are heating issues being reported. Has anyone noticed that?

 

Yeah I heard about that. Apparently Blizzard did not put a framerate cap on the menus so the game is trying to draw the menus as quickly as possible. It can cause computers with insufficient cooling to overheat.

This game is like crack, I played from 10:30pm to 6:30am yesterday, work up at 11:30 was off work and played from 12 to 4, took a nap now back on

Noooo! I just realized I'm probably a few missions from the end of the campaign. Not that it matters too much though, since I'll probably play it all over again. :grin:

The "between mission" area during this last part is pretty cool. Way more interesting than the Hyperion.

 

yeah something is very wrong with my pc. i even set it back to factory settings and im still having problems. my computer is dusty inside so im going to get some compressed air. im crossing my fingers that that will help. if not i have no freakin idea whats wrong.

i also updated my video card drivers booo.

i have a quad core processor and 6 gigs of memory unless im missing something that should run the game for sure.

anyone have any ideas???

Certain screens make your hardware work pretty hard

Screens that are light on detail may make your system overheat if cooling is overall insufficient. This is because the game has nothing to do so it is primarily just working on drawing the screen very quickly. A temporary workaround is to go to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:

frameratecapglue=30

frameratecap=60

You may replace these numbers if you want to.

 

The lag could be caused by the GPU rendering the frames at max speed which might cause the video card to overheat and slow down the game.

The following will help by telling StarCraft 2 to limit the behavior:

Open My Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt using Notepad (or any other text editor)
Add the following two lines to the file:
Frameratecapglue=30
Frameratecap=60
Save the txt file and you’re done.
The frameratecapglue variable controls menu screens framerates. The frameratecap controls the in-game framerate. I have chosen 60 as I am running this game on a laptop (60 is the max refresh rate for my monitor) but you can choose any number that fits your configuration.

What exactly is wrong? If it's overheating, cleaning your computer out with compressed air will help. Creating that txt file that kikimama and thainguyen posted should also help as well. If it's a problem with your video card, you may want to try updating your DirectX also.

 

the game starts to shudder and slow down at some point. usually about 3-4 minutes into it.

 

What video card are you running and on what OS? Does this happen to Starcraft 2 only or other games also?
