I had the Beta....never played it. Guess I didn't have the desire, I wasn't really ever into SC. Was always a Warcraft fan back in the day, then AOE.

thanks. I was looking up some individually. Focused on ATI 5770 Crossfire & 5870 CrossfireX. Doesnt seem the 5870 offers that much more considering how much more it costs

Remember that the Crossfire is like SLI -- the benchmarks are considering you have TWO of them in the SLI/Crossfire configuration.

In my opinion, a $200 card is quite capable of pretty much everything. Shelling out $600 to be on the bleeding edge just isn't worth the gain.

I've got 2 ATI 5870's in CrossfireX, but honestly you're not going to see a huge improvement in framerates over single cards until you get to higher resolutions (I'm running 1920x1200).

I just got my Collector's Edition! Installing now...

yeah, plus i'm not near as hardcore as i once was. Looks like running 2 5770 is the best bang for the buck.

I have 2x 9800 GTX's in SLI and haven't run into a game I couldn't run at max on 1680x1050 resolution (my monitor is "only" 24").

StarCraft 2 actually stutters when map is revealed (at least on the first mission which is all I've played thus far), but it's probably lack of memory since TaskManager was rnning at 95% physical (thus, the pagefile was probably being used a little). I only have 2GB. Buying 4GB this afternoon and hopefully the issue will be alleviated.

If you're shopping for a new gaming rig, you should consider 3D capability.

I have a friend who built a 3D rig and loves it. He also isn't a fan of 3D movies, so isn't just sucked in by the hype.

He says it hurts his eyes after a few hours, but doesn't regret shelling out the extra cash.

EDIT-just checked with him and he said the novelty wore off and he doesn't use the 3d capability any more. It might be that it hurt his eyes, too.

Well for 3D capability the only thing that matters besides the video card (and the necessary 3D accessories) is a true 120Hz monitor. Not all games support 3D right now though. If you were really going to spend, I would suggest going with a multi-display setup first. Getting a 3x1 monitor setup and then having the 3D on top of that would be great.

    Getting it today!

I played the Beta and it was great. Unfortunately, my computer's graphics card isn't strong enough to turn up the graphics settings without producing lag. All my settings are at the lowest levels possible with a mediocre resolution haha.

My kid has an HP laptop with an Nvidia laptop thingy in it. He plays WOW on the thing at low graphics settings, but he can play it. I wonder if there's any chance he could play Starcraft II.

How much would you have to spend to get a video card good enough to run this?

I'm talking like the minimum req.

Yeah, I just walked into Best Buy and bought one after work. They had another 20-30 copies left at the one by my house (at least on display).

I know this is ridiculous, but my brother wants to get the new iMAC to play SC2, since we do not have a desktop in the house.

    The specs are:
    27-inch Screen: 2.8GHz
    2.8GHz Intel Core i5
    2560-by-1440 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB

I know MACS tend to be overpriced, so I was wondering how much a PC with those specs would cost?

I'd say about 600-800 could net you a PC like that. Estimating...
