This is where the prequels make the OT Vader more compelling in my opinion, though. Vader knows what impatience brings him because it's what got him to where he's at. He learned from his mistakes. A lot of people expect characters to be exactly the same in the prequels as they were in the OT but I think having Anakin as a snot-nosed impatient little twit adds to the characterization of Darth Vader. Edit: As far as Chewie, it's possible that the Wookies didn't trust Jedi as a whole, just Yoda. After all when Yoda volunteers to go he says it's because he has good relations with the Wookies implying that other Jedi might not be as successful.
Here's what I've always wondered: If Vader was able to realize that Luke is his son, why wasn't he able to realize that Leia was his daughter in the original movie? And even if he did know she was his daughter, she was going to be executed and he didn't care at all. You would think if he is willing to put his ass on the line to save his son that he would at least have second thoughts about executing his own daughter? Just very confusing to me.
I think when the Rebellion let it get out that Luke Skywalker was the hero at the battle of Yavin, it wasn't difficult for Vader to go...."man I could have had a son that age who would have been strong in the force and his last name would have been Skywalker, too. Maybe it isn't a coincidence"
What i've always wondered is why didn't Obi Wan recognize R2D2 when he saw him again in "A New Hope"?
You could argue that he did recognize him. He wasn't being entirely honest with Luke when he said Vader murdered Anakin Skywalker. You could also argue that there's no reason to remember an appliance that he hasn't seen in 20 or so years. Also, perhaps there are numerous astro droids that look like that and there's no reason to think this particular one was R2-D2. ...or you could probably make this argument, too.
the prequels sucked, the coolest character was killed off in the first one, Darth Maul. the guy was the baddest sith lord. took on two guys and didnt give a ****.
Stepbrothers, technically. Lucas retconned that. Originally Owen was Ben Kenobi's brother, but thankfully that was never mentioned in the movies, only in the Return of the Jedi novelization. Pretty scary when the book based on the movie isn't even canon. Incidentally, that's a retcon I was actually glad to see. I never bought Owen being Ben's brother since Ben showed no emotion whatsoever when Luke finds out that Owen and Beru were killed by stormtroopers.
