I always thought it should've been wookies instead.

I think I'd read somewhere that's what was supposed to happen originally but Lucas decided to use the Ewoks instead. Whole thing was suppposed to take place on Kashik (sp?) instead of Endor.

I used to think this way, then Lucas crapped out those prequels.

If he won't let someone else direct, I'd rather he just leave it alone.

It's sad, but it's what LPTSD does to a person.

Yeah. Something about budgetary concerns and pressure from the studio meant that they could get enough costume material for many costumes for kids and midgets or fewer costumes for fully-grown adults. The numbers they needed vs. the money they had available = Ewoks and not Wookies.

Between Empire and Jedi, Lucas had a shift. He shifted from wanting to create the greatest space opera of all time, to wanting to sell more toys. A major decision was to make Jedi more "kid friendly" by introducing Ewoks.

I am personally not all that offended by the inclusion of Ewoks themselves to sell a few toys or to look cute. What somewhat offends me is that the entire trilogy had been just about perfect up to that point, with the major conflicts/resolutions being determined by the main characters which everybody fell in love with. Yet the major battle of the entire trilogy is basically determined by the Hasbro characters he inserted at the last minute. If the Ewoks had been a side note and just perhaps helpful, I have no problem with them. Lucas decides to make the Ewoks the pivot in the entire battle, however, and the entire battle and war is basically won because of them. Lame.

^^seems a little bit of an exaggeration considering the Ewoks didn't set and arm the detonators for the field generator, nor did they blow up the death star, nor did they kill the Emperor. They were essentially the diversion that allowed the wheels to be set in motion.

My only real problem with it is that Ewoks against Elite Stormtroopers = major fail for the Ewoks. If it was the Wookies that would make much more sense. Or if they had spiked the stormtroopers kool-aid to make 'em shoot so horribly that could have worked too.

I disagree. The attack on the Death Star was dead in the water due to the force field. The Capital ships couldn't attack and the fighters couldn't engage. It was the "anvil" and the Imperial fleet was the hammer and the rebels were caught in between.

Han and the rebel forces on the ground were captured. They had no chance to get out of their situation to disable the shield generator. If it were not for the Ewoks, the game is over. Their attack allowed for the rebels to retake the base and blow the generator. The Ewoks were literally the most pivotal point of the movie. The rebels were effectively defeated, they were the "deux ex machina" that came out of nowhere and allowed the heros to triumph.

Even if the events on the Death Star work out completely like they did, the rebel fleet is smashed and Luke is alone to battle his way out of the Death Star and restart the rebellion. I guess the only other way would have been for him to seize the Death Star, by himself, and use the Super Weapon against the Empires own ships. A tall order, even for a Jedi. And even if he could pull it off, the Rebellion is probably smashed anyways.

That'd only make plenty sense to make. "SW - Reign of Vader", the entirety of the movie nothing but Vader delivering Imperial ass beatings all across the galaxy. All Vader would need is like 5-10 total speaking lines (which works for the script dialogue-challenged Lucas.) I hate how producers know what they need to deliver, but then they go with their own "creative direction" and explore alternatives

I can understand Lucas not wanting to "blow his load" going all in like that. But if he had time and energy for Battle for ENDOR, he certainly seems creative enough to milk the franchise in all kinds of different ways.

[Blu Ray] Star Wars - Complete Saga

    From Gizmodo:
There's an Amazon link in the link above for the whole set for $90. Not a bad deal at all.

This is the Special Editions of the original trilogy, a fact about which I am completely bummed. I know damn good and well Lucas will release the original theatrical versions later on Blu-ray

I really, really, really want to be excited about this, but I am of the opinion that Lucas effed up the whole damn thing and I'd rather wait for that Adywan guy to finish his fan edits because his version of Ep. IV is f***ing awesome.

    Thoughts/rants?

So special editions in September, and then the version everyone Really wants in December? I'll stick with the Adywan cuts until then.

I don't see the big fuss between special vs original.

The special edition is just fine.

Am I the only one who thought all 3 prequels were kinda ruined since we all know what's gonna happen in the end?

The Jedi wars were kind of a let down. All that waiting to see Yoda jump around walls for 10 seconds.

If only the '93 LaserDisc THX masters of the theatrical cuts could be converted to 1080p with a DTS-HDMA soundtrack like the new Alien, Terminator 2, and Excorcist blu rays, that would be perfect.

$90 for the complete saga on Blu-ray is cheap. That's only $15 per movie.

    Might cop this up...

I'll wait till next Christmas when Amazon will gold box deal it for $60.

I have one Star wars movie (Revenge of the Sith) on DVD.

Was never fooled into buying any other ones.
