Next Generation is my favorite series but I thought those movies sucked. Generations is good but not as good as 2,3 and 4
First Contact was good, I don't know about Nemesis, I thought it was ok. Oh think 6 was good, the one where kirk and mccoy got to that ice planet and meet up with Iman.
6 is my favorite, but I need to rewatch the old ones again. I think I saw 2-4 when I was 12 or something.
Think if you haven't seen any of the Trek films the best of the bunch are 2 Khaaaaan 3 was a good follow up to 2 6 always enjoyed The undiscovered country Generation and First Contact from TNG who I think got shafted on the movie side. I'm a big trek fan and that trailer looks pretty damn sweet. Curious to see if the movie lives up the trailer but I have faith in J.J. and his Apple store Enterprise
I think it all depends on expectations. If you're a Star Trek fan, have been to their conventions, or can speak Klingon, you'll probably think this movie is incredible. If you're like me and think Star Trek is kind of boring and sometimes aspires to mediocrity, you'll probably avoid this film or think it's crap if you get dragged to theater to see it.
Well, I am not a huge Trek fan, but honestly, what about those clips in the trailer makes you think of the original series? Certainly the tone and feel of the movie don't need to match that campy thing Roddenberry had going, but at least the characters should be consistent. Kirk looks like a crazy *******, Spock seems unusually violent...it could just be the clips they decided to show, but I have a feeling that people that people that know how to speak Klingon are going to be the ones that hate this movie the most.
i'm not that big of star trek geek, trust me. the romulans and vulcans were basically the same people. they split off one basing their civilization of power and war, while the other on logic. this was before the split i'm guessing.
I think you're right. In fact, early responses from hardcare Star Trek fans are negative. But what's negative for the extreme is positive for the mainstream. I'm actually a newbie to the whole SciFi Star Trek canon. I have no preconceptions as to what was said or implied about ST history. Yet I do know enough to recognize that Spock is supposed to be unemotional, McCoy, a flair for solliloquies, and Kirk, a risk taker. And for this movie to talk about how they came to be is kinda like Batman Begins but for ST characters. I think that's pretty clever imho. Also - check out Kirk's line in the trailer "buckle up"... he sounds like Shatner-lite! It's these little cues that I think will bring a chuckle to the mainstream while keeping the major fans entertained. I'll say it here... I think this Star Trek reboot may well be the Star Wars of today's younger generation. theSAGE
That trailer is actually a little different than the one they're showing in theaters. Here's the one they're showing at the movies: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/euwBiiiWcYE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/euwBiiiWcYE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Well, I wasn't speaking of Vulcans in general, but of what I remember of Spock specifically. I don't remember much from the movies before Star Trek 4...was Spock a lot more violent in the first 3? If so, then this isn't so out of character, I guess.

Hard to say how it will do....? I could see big numbers, but I can see it just being modest (not great or flop). Not end up as bad as Speed Racer (where most younger folks are unfamiliar with). Don't think it will do well as any of the Star Wars movies, it's not as popular, but still has one of the larger fan bases. Which is the main problem? I remember that the producers of TNG, mainly Rick Berman who wanted to take the serious in another direction beyond what it was in TNG and TOS (opposite of Roddenberry's goals). I think in direction that appealed more to younger fans. Don't be mistaken, though, I don't think he's involved in this film, though. Although, it might be unintentionally what he envisioned to do with Enterprise and Voyager. Of all the famous movie franchises, it probably is the one that should go in different direction. I thought they could do same film, but not use the original characters. Since, most characters backstory are already spelled out or just not the interesting to begin with.
Spock was virtually never violent. He used the Vulcan nerve pinch for God's sake! That's the weirdest part of the trailer, but of course in Star Trek anything can happen.
Spock is only Half Vulcan. He's half human. Also, Vulcan's have emotions, they just learned to repress them at a young age. Thats the difference between them and Romulans..Romulans embraced their emotions.
I think what the trailer has going for it is that it doesn't feel like a strictly Star Trek movie...it feels like an epic sci-fi that happens to be Star Trek. And that's how they can pull in new and casual fans. In fact a friend of mine said that this, based on the trailer, was the first Trek movie he's mildly interested in seeing.
