UT Police Chief David Carter identified the suspect in the attack as 20-year-old UT student Kendrex J. White, a biology major from Killeen.

Police got the call around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon about a person with a knife who attacked or assaulted someone outside the Gregory gym.

A UT police officer saw a man, later identified as White, with a “large, bowie-style hunting knife,” Carter said. The officer drew his gun and told White to get on the ground, which he did, and police took him into custody.

Within about a block, three more people were found stabbed, Carter said.

Carter said UT police decided not to put the campus on lockdown because White was immediately taken into custody.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Kendrex J. White, 21, is currently in custody accused of going on a deadly stabbing spree on the University of Texas at Austin campus Monday afternoon.

This is what we know about White:

    • He is a junior at UT where he’s majoring in Biology.
    • His Facebook account shows he is from Killeen, where he graduated from Killeen High School in 2014.
    • Travis County records show he was arrested and charged with DWI on April 4, 2017. According to an arrest affidavit, White got into a crash when he failed to yield to the right of way when he turned at the corner of Whitis and Dean Keeton. When an officer spoke to White, he said he took two “happy pills,” which were listed as Zoloft.
UT student Joshua Anderson had classes with White and says he is “very friendly and talkative.” Anderson says White had been missing classes lately and when he asked him about it last week, White said he had a few things going on his life and “that he had to put academics on the back burner for a bit.”

Absolutely. It's also possible that people don't realize they might have issues like PTSD. I think many folks think that it is something that only combat veterans can have.

Glad, that you got therapy and took the steps to help yourself. That's really is cool. I always admire when folks have what it takes to make real substantial life improvements.

What part of my post seems non serious? The part where I shared a personal story and you decide it's a good time to be a snarky ass hole.

And yes a therapist would be happy to have a session once a year to make sure you are handling things like stress, anxiety, etc appropriately. If you need someone I have a good one.

the part about diagnosing mental health in one session.

I wouldn't trust a doctor who claimed to evaluate me in one session.

What part about the word "routine" means one session?

You know what... I've given this conversion enough life already so since you disagree with me on my thoughts (which involved a deeply personal story im gonna delete cause apparently nothing personal is off limits when you didn't vote for Trump) people should take care of their mental health maybe you could take over here and give your expert opinion on the matter.

Geez. I bet you are just a real great guy to hang out with. Not a miserable douche at all.

Have a good night and hope your life gets a lot better.

UT stabbing suspect may have had mental health issues, police say

(CNN)Kendrex J. White, the suspect in a hunting knife attack that left one student dead and three others wounded at the University of Texas at Austin, may have been "suffering from mental health issues," UT Austin Police Chief David Carter said Tuesday.

White recently had been involuntarily committed and later released in another city, according to Carter, who provided no other details.
Armed with a "bowie-style" hunting knife, the suspect "calmly walked around" campus Monday afternoon and randomly stabbed other students, police and witnesses said. White, who was booked on a murder charge, will face additional counts, authorities said.

The stabbing attack does not appear to be part of a larger assault, though authorities were still trying to determine a motive.
"This was not a conspiracy," Carter said. "This was not about a person who had a vendetta."
Austin Police Chief Brian Manley added, "There is no evidence linking this to any part of a larger plan."
The student killed Monday was identified Harrison Brown, a freshman who hoped to have a career in music, said university president Gregory L. Fenves.
"We are in mourning and we are hurting as a university community," Fenves said.
Two hours after the attack, classes and events were canceled for the rest of the day but activities resumed on campus Tuesday amid what Fenves described as "a great deal of fear on campus and in our community."
