Sri Lankan president says Enrique Iglesias concert organizers should be ‘whipped with toxic stingray tails’ after women toss bras onstage

Organizers of an Enrique Iglesias show in Sri Lanka should be "whipped with toxic stingray tails" after lustful ladies threw their bras onstage and hugged and kissed the singer, according to the country's head of state.

President Maithripala Sirisena's incendiary remark — referring to a medieval form of punishment administered to hardened criminals — came days after a Dec. 20 show in the conservative nation's capital, Colombo, a stop on the Spanish singer's "Sex and Love" world tour.

"This is most uncivilized behavior that goes against our culture," Sirisena said during a public meeting following the concert, the BBC reported this week.



"I don't advocate that these uncivilized women who removed their brassieres should be beaten with toxic stingray tails, but those who organized such an event should be."

Sirisena also grumbled about expensive tickets, which reportedly cost between 5,000 and 50,000 rupees ($35 to $350).

The president came under fire on social media as users reposted a since-deleted photo of his son-in-law, Thilina Suranjith, enjoying the concert, and pointed out that his country is a major lingerie exporter.
