And how many games did you pick the Kings to win in, Cat? [IMG]

As I said earlier in this thread, I have no rooting interest and no prediction in this series. But in Game 1, Jackson thoroughly outcoached Popovich, and that doesn't bode well for the Spurs the rest of the way.

The Spurs played with the attitude of "let's just play our game." The Lakers came in with the attitude of "let's step up our game so we can beat a championship-caliber team."

Unfortunately, that is very true. Early on, the Spurs were up 7 on the Lakers, and Pop takes out Robinson with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd. When he reenters in the 2nd quarter, the Spurs were down 9, and never led again. David Robinson isn't a spring chicken, but in the biggest game of the season, there is no excuse for playing him 30 minutes against the Lakers when he is in no foul trouble and he matches up actually pretty decent with Shaq. In addition, it just baffles me how he never doubled Kobe or went to Hack a Shaq when they needed stops in the 4th. Kobe was ripping this team up. If you aren't going to double him, what's wrong with fouling Shaq? His last two free throws of the game (3rd quarter I believe) he completely bricked. It takes 1 second of the shot clock, so you have plenty of time to come back. And this is a career 50% shooter from the line. It was either foul him, or let Kobe continue to dominate. Look at it this way-- even if Shaq makes both in the worst case scenario, it only takes 1 second. What did he have to lose?

Also, what concerns me, is that I'm starting to just wonder if the Lakers really are a team of destiny or something. They're playing decent defense, but what's simply unbelievable is that the Spurs did exactly what the Kings did-- brick completely wide open threes that had been their trademark all season long. Phil Jackson and the Lakers defense did nothing to force that-- that responsibility falls completely on the shoulders of the Spurs, and the Kings last series. The Lakers are playing good basketball I must admit. But, they are getting a hell of a lot of luck to go with it. More than I've seen any team get in a long time.

I hate to admit it, because I am rooting for the Spurs in this series, but the Lakers are gonna walk all over them if Derek Anderson doesn't get healthy quick. The towers CAN contain O'Neal somewhat, but they don't have a single healthy player who can match up with Kobe.

I've counted three times the Spurs got away with goaltending (offensive or defensive).

Also Shaq got a charging foul called on him when Duncan was in the circle.

That technical (on Shaq) was BS too.

Other then that, the refs are doing a great job.

The Spurs are playing pretty solid defense though.

Oh yeah, and those 3 doofuses calling the game are easily the worst broadcasting crew in the league.

This series is done. It's a shame. I was hoping for one of those classic seven game marathons, but instead, it will be a sweep.
    Nice choke Spurs.

Sigh, another year of constant Kobe-praising from NBC. Oh my, it is going to be painful.

Chalk up another one for the striped shirts. 3 out of David's five fouls were pure BS. When David was in the game, the Spurs dominated. They lost control when he went out. If the Lakers win the title this year (and I still think the Spurs win this series), in my book it's one with another asterisk. Can you please play a fair game? I guess it's too much to ask.

What a joke. San Antonio is just getting it handed to them. Nice heart. Derek Anderson didn't make THAT big a difference. In fact he didn't contain Kobe all that much in the regular season, so there is no excuse for this butt whipping that the Lakers are handing down to the Spurs. I say we get some pieces to the puzzle, add an athletic SF, get a solid big man, maybe Webber, would be nice to trade for Rahim, and show Sacramento, Portland, and San Antonio what heart is all about. I guarantee that the Rockets wouldn't have rolled over and quit like these guys are doing.

    Dude Cat,
I'm in total amazement at how you never give the winning team credit, if your team loses, it has nothing to do with the team that won, but instead either the refs won it, or the team that lost the game played out of character.

For you to say the refs won the game for the Lakers is a complete joke.

Phil Jackson didn't get 2 technical fouls (also his total amount of techs in the regular season) just because he felt like it. If the refs wanted the Spurs to win then why the hell did the Lakers get 3 technical fouls on them?

Spurs also shot 7 more free throws than the Lakers, but of course the refs want the Lakers to win.

The Cat...you were blaming the refs in the Toronto/Sixers game too. What is it when your teams don't win you blame it on the officiating. Shaq wasn't getting the calls in the first half either and Phil Jackson got bogus technicals. Just face it. The SPURS are NOT like the Rockets! THEY HAVE NO HEART AND ARE A BUNCH OF LOSERS!

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy for the Lakers to win. I'm just saying 3 of Robinson's 5 fouls were horrific judgment by the officials, and the Spurs dominated with Robinson on the floor. If Robinson is on the floor as much as he should've been, imho the Spurs win easy. In my book, I consider that the refs handing the Lakers the game. It may not have been their intent, but it still happened.

There's no asterick, the refs didn't make a difference, it's called not taking care of your own business. Look at the box score. The only guy to show up for the Spurs other then Duncan was Antonio Daniels. That's a pathetic joke. Letting Fox and Fisher team up to torch you for 27 is criminal. Saying the refs cost them this game is a cop out. If San Antonio showed any heart this series would be tied at 1 or they would be up 2-0. They led in both games, let a little adversity hit, and they just rolled over. The Lakers are playing like champions, the Spurs are playing like chumps. Take out Daniels and Duncan, and the rest of the team combined to score 17. Pathetic. The ball movement was a joke. Don't cop out and blame the refs, give the Lakers credit. They actually want to win, while the Spurs are still sleepwalking. They can win this series without Derek Anderson. It's a joke that they can't win a game in this series so far.

    C'mon Cat,

Why do blame the referee's for every game, I mean, that is ridiculous. The Fact is the Spurs supporting cast killed them. Blaming the refs for loses is sad. You need to accept that the Lakers are a better team. Maybe if David was more aggressive he would get less fouls called on him. The refs have been great in this series, they have let the players play, its been great.

Stop blaming the refs for every game becuase referee's rarely determine the outcome of a game.

Oh come off it---David didn't deserve those three fouls just like the Lakers didn't deserve any of their technical fouls (save the illegal defense)...

Shaq gets hacked every time he turns to the hole and the refs only call it <%60% of the time...

I just got one question. Why the hell was Avery Johnson not in the game. Terry Porter looked scared out there and was choking all night long.
