How can you say that? Not that I dislike Dorsey, but he was unimpressive in summer league and didn't see the floor in the regular season. Not much to judge by
You can say the same thing about any team with a legit superstar. Not all "scrubs" can look decent playing alongside a Duncan. The whole idea of acquiring role players like these is called building a contender on a foundation. Every year people say the Spurs are getting too old. But if you look at them, ever since they tanked to get Duncan, they have been reloading on the fly. They are not a supremely dominating team. But they have been a contender every single year. If Scola were 5 years younger, he would have been wearing a Spurs rather than a Rockets jersey. The only reason they let him go was because Scola was too good and too old to sit behind Duncan. They figured Duncan still had a few more high level production years.
He's an interesting signing to say the least. Jacked up 4.8 three pointers per game for his Euro club. Made 2 of them @ 42% (not bad). His rebounding numbers aren't mindblowing - but it looks like he's blocked the odd shot at every level he's played at. If it pans out, he makes for a good combination with Duncan. Someone who can spread the floor for Duncan to operate, and who can block the odd shot defensively. The Spurs don't need him to be an all-star, just to do those 2 things - and perhaps snare the odd rebound too. Be interesting to follow his progress.
I remember wishing that we could have taken a flyer on this kid before he made the move overseas. Good to see him back in the L though
