It has nothing to do with countries. Racism and bigotry goes both ways and crosses national boundaries. It's a "human" thing, not a "nation" thing.
A true tragedy. A cruel lesson in life that sometimes bad things happen and then...The End, no fairytale endings.
Racism, bigotry, hate crimes, etc. happen in almost every country on earth. France has terrible hate crimes, England has terrible hate crimes, every African country is a hate crime explosion...You would think that we could be held to a higher standard in this day and age in the US, especially a middle to upper middle class part of Houston suburbia. Terrible stuff.
Agreed, but the sense of arrogance and superficial sense of what it means to be "American" seems unique to this country more than any other I can think of -- unlike the outfits that stem from a singular tribe or religion that creates a standard set of rules. This country was founded on a belief that all were welcome to do and pray as they please, and its inhabitants continually refuse to acknowledge that. Other countries haven't had that luxury, and act accordingly. We have no such excuse.
RIP I was so sad to read about this in the morning. All his friends said he was handling it well, I bet it's kind of a shock to all his loved ones.
A buddy of mine was in that movie. He was the guy behind Luke Wilson on the prison bus. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=77244151
