In an interview at 4 pm, Scott Layden declared that the Knicks made no trades before the deadline. According to fans at the NYK message boards.
Here are some trades that didn't go down: The Miami Herald reports that the Heat offered Brian Grant and Travis Best to the Mavericks for Nick Van Exel, but the Mavericks turned down the trade The Memphis Commericial Appeal reports that Stromile Swift is fed up with the trade-rumor talk and can't wait for Thursday fast enough. The Commercial Appeal reported on Monday of a rumored deal that involved the Grizzlies and Magic. Memphis reportedly offered Stromile Swift and Gordan Giricek to Orlando for Mike Miller, who the Grizzlies covet. As it turns out, the Grizz sent Drew Gooden and Giricek instead. The New York Daily News reports that Layden has shown some interest in the L.A. Clippers' Andre Miller and would be willing to deal away Ward and Harrington to the Clippers. The New York Times reports that Scott Layden offered Charlie Ward and Kurt Thomas to the Sonics for Gary Payton on Tuesday, this according to "high-ranking" sources from three different teams. Seattle reportedly turned down the offer.
bobb if there is another trade that gets reported, would you be so kind as to post it in this thread?
Call me crazy, but did the Mavs just turn down exactly the kind of player they need? All those shooters, and no inside force. Plus, they still have Avery Johnson as another PG.
Yup. Cuban knew that if he took on Grant's contract, that would be it. With Nowtizki's impending max contract (or close to), the Mavericks would be stuck with their team for a good time. A lot of lengthy long term deals. I don't think Cuban thought bringing in Grant would put them over the hump to get to the Finals alone. They'd rather use that money in a better manner.
yup, course some rock fans think trading for a role-player with a max contract would have been a good move.
BobFinn*,what do you think would the legal implications be if a trade were to be completed after the deadline? It's interesting to hear that it doesn't involve either Sprewell or Cassell.
