They asked on SportsTalk 790 just now if whether or not "Dwight Howard better than David Robinson?" The host replied "of course not but he'll eat up your average centers". He said this so matter of factly, which got me thinking...

    Do you guys agree?

David Robinson was light years better than Dwight. The Admiral was Dream's equal for the majority of his career. Check the stats. They are right there with Dream's.

D.Rob could shoot the ball like a semi-stretch 4/5 He played more like an oversized 3 at times. Could handle the ball like a smaller player as well.

Sorry, but David Robinson was much more versatile offensively and just about had the same impact on defense. Robinson never really had a dominating back to the basket game, but his face up game was just as good as any center I've ever seen.

He really was. As much as I enjoyed Dream's dominance in the 1995 playoffs, it tends to be a bit overdone. Robinson was a phenomenal player- better than Ewing, slightly less than Hakeem. And I say that as Hakeem is my favorite player of all time, no one's even close. But really, no one can deny Robinson's greatness.

Hakeem is my favorite too.. I don't even think guys like Jordan or Kobe had that kind of poetry in motion type of moves. I hate poetry btw.

Robinson is one of the all time greats. Easily in anybody's top 10 of greatest centers of all time. People also forget he lost some years serving in the Navy.

I like Dwight but he is nowhere near on Robinson's level. Dwight would of only been an average center had he played in the 80's - 90's.

    Hakeem>David Robinson>Dwight

Rebounding is the only thing Howard is better.

On offense, it's not even close. Robinson could score in the post and hit midrange jump shots, and can handle the ball driving to the basket. And he could make free throws when fouled.

Defensively, it is debatable. I think it's a toss up. Howard is stronger. Robinson was longer. Both are very athletic.

I think Robinson got some bad rep among Rockets fans mainly because he got destroyed by Hakeem in the playoffs right after he won the MVP over Hakeem. But it's really not his fault.

Robinson. He'd be killing it right now, if he was in his prime. He scored 70 in a game and nearly averaged 30 one season. People forget him because of Ewing, Dream, and shaq.

David Robinson of course. As much as we love Dwight and love making fun of Robinson, this one is not even close.

    Exactly.

Robinson was in the 'super era' for centers, and was one of the best.

Dwight has been the best of the last 10 years, but he would have been consumed by Dream, Admiral, Ewing, Shaq etc

No need to go that far back, Dwight was destroyed by Yao.
