    This is so sad.

If we wanted him so bad, we shouldve signed him last year. Yes, we had Francis but Moochie sucked and we ended up with Wilkes as an insurance policy.

So instead of signing him, we may give up 2 1st round draft choices for a medicore player approaching 30.

Thank goodness this is just speculation.

So out of 50 picks, youve listed 16.

And out of that 16, Id have no problem losing out on about 6 or 7 of those guys. So essentially, getting a quality player out of the 20-30 spot is about a 1 in 5 chance (20%).

I know. I posted it. Why won't we have his Bird rights? Not that he would be expensive, unless he blows up. Plus, it's an option. If it's "in his interest" not to exercise it, maybe he won't.

People are worried about giving them another #1 pick just for Daniels, but like I have said before, Daniels' contract doesn't come close to the total of the TE. I would certainly hope the Rockets are going to get another one or two players in this deal that will help this team. I agree with those that have argued this as it would be incredibly stupid to, in essence, trade to #1's for 1 role player, but I think the Rockets know this as well and will not make that mistake. At least I hope not.

If he doesn't exercise it, it probably means he was a flop.

This is just what the Dr. ordered!!! Althletic, tall (for a PG), doesn't turn the ball over, doesn't need/take a ton of shots, playoff experience. Need I say more?????????

Is it not correct? If it is, then back to 'scary, very scary.'

True enough, but I think the value of the TE changed for us when we acqired T-Mac and saw what are options were.

People are correct, this deal may include more than we know. But it seems we're in effect using the TE to acquire a cheap contract and auditioning a good point guard for the job at no risk.

In addition we have an overall #1 and two overall 15 picks (Boki, Gaines) on our roster (since the 2002 draft) along with a 25 year old that's a proven veteran superstar.

This situation is unforseen, and I can't knock a certain amount of caution here. And I didn't want Sonow or Fisher :).

It's not like a 20% chance is a bad thing. What were the odds of us landing Yao? The odds of getting a "quality player" are STILL pretty much against you even if you have a 14-20 pick.

I don't want to sound testy, I just miss the days when we could watch young players grow in our system: Horry, Cassell, Mobley; even semi-busts like Dickerson, Rhodes, Maloney, etc. And we seem to have the attitude that we can always get better through FA and trades exclusively. The draft is also a good way to bolster your lineup and patch some holes in your roster.

Getting back on topic, Antonio Daniels is a great player. He comes cheap, he's willing to work hard on both ends, he'll protect the ball, he can push the ball, he'll know his role. The list goes on and on. As a "rental" player, he'll be great. I'd love to have him on the team. I'm just hoping that we give up a 2nd rounder (instead of a first if we have to give them a pick) and the TE...hopefully even MoT for one of their bigmen.

My opinion is that AD is a no win situation.

If he's a bust, well he's a bust, but if he plays well, then the Rox will have to cough up serious dough, in order to re-sign him next summer.

    It sucks either way.

I posted the info earlier in the thread from Patricia's site, but I couldn't understand it. If anyone can, I'd appreciate it!

Quick question. I think we can use part of the TE for each trade right? If that is so, could we not use enough of the TE+pick for Daniels, then the rest of the TE+Taylor (or other bad contract) for one of their bigs? I of course assume that we would consider them two seperate trades, but would the league allow this, and if not, could we do the Daniels trade now and do the other one in a few weeks?

I know we can't add more than one player or pick with the TE.

Nelson went at pick 20 to the Nuggets, so he would've been off the board by our pick (21) had we kept it.

I don't agree with the line of thought that we're trading two first round picks for Daniels. In a way, it's true, but the idea for the Rockets wasn't to trade the pick for the trade exception and then to use the trade exception this summer. The idea was to get rid of Rice's contract so that the Rockets would be able to sign Jim Jackson without being at risk of paying the luxury tax. The point was to bring in Jim Jackson... the trade exception was a side benefit. You could just as easily say that we got both Daniels and Jackson for those two picks, and that makes it look different.

HoopsHype has Potapenko listed at making roughly $6.2 mil this season and it looks like it is the last year of his contract.

apparently potapenko is getting 6.191M next year.

also, the sonics have basically no one signed past this year and only have 12M committed for next season (with booth's 6 or so million taking up half of it).

did i just imagine rashard getting a big contract extension from seattle? he makes 7.8M this year and then is done. sounds like we need to step in for a little trade when seattle is playing poorly midseason and then sign him with some bird rights (a rashard to houston scenario, no one's ever brought that up on here :) ).
