Lol or do you think that possibly reacting the CH4 methyl group with an alkyl group would result in a more stable moleculed post? oh yea...and benzene rings are cyclic and planer
Here's the difference. During media day, Clutch covered the festivities for the Clutchfans front page, which anyone can view. The notorious rumor was here in the MESSAGE BOARD. A seperate entity from the "website" itself. EDIT: I see Blatz beat me to the punch. Great minds, as they say.
Well, I know the Chronicle has a forum. If people post crap on there, I don't care because I expect that of a forum. That's how all forums on the Internet work. However, what goes on in the main section of chron.com is another matter. So yes, I would think the main section of clutchfans.net and the bbs section should be considered differently. Granted, most of us spend our time here but the 'official' stuff from Clutch, et al, is on the main page.
I agree. You raise some interesting points, which have been significantly responded to already. I would also point out that many mainstream media outlets report and discuss rumors so long as they are identified as such, as was the case here. The relationship of traditional media to new internet media (many of whom had and may still be having trouble getting customary media credentials) and other sources of information on the internet such as this bbs is a tangled and evolving process - fascinating to watch.
I went back and checked photos from the Blazers game. I think Lance was the one that hurt T-Mac and caused him to be out for 5 weeks. Check him eyeing for a chance to hurt our star.
I understand your question, but I've never felt this was ever confusing. I spelled that out also in my post that closed the rumor thread. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=2209551#post2209551 You can certainly bookmark the BBS, but at some point, fans who came to "ClutchFans" had to click "Forum" to get here. News that I can confirm or report I will write-up and place on the front page. To me, it would be like denying ESPN or Chronicle online writers because of their message boards. You have to be careful not to confuse the two aspects of the site or penalize me simply because our message board is different than theirs in that it is monitored, very high-traffic and held to a much higher standard with regard to news/scoops.
There are several different dimensions to consider about this topic. On a personal preference level I'm a bit indignant about how Lance Z. called out clutchfans the way that he did. I disagree and disapprove of the way he handled it. That aside, I would like to point out some of the legal dimensions of this. I'm not a legal expert but there's enough info out there that I believe would benefit all of us to be aware of in this internet age of ours. PARTICIPANTS OF ONLINE FORUMS ARE LEGALLY JOURNALISTS: Here's one resource that is insightful: http://www.dba-oracle.com/internet_defamation_privacy_libel_laws.htm A quote from the resource above points out "Whenever you enter a message board, chat room or blog, you become a worldwide publisher and are subjected to the same laws as any other international journalist. You might also be responsible for the words of others. Under certain circumstances you can be held responsible for re-publishing a defamatory work and inciting defamation". In other words by participating on online message boards like the clutchfans bbs each of us is legally considered an amateur journalist and held to the same laws applied to journalists. Specifically we are all subject to laws applied to the invasion of privacy, libel / defamation, false light etc. DEFINITIONS & IMPLICATIONS REGARDING MEDIA LAW: Libel is publication of a false, defamatory, statement fact. Defmation is publication of anything (true or false) that injures any person or business entity. False-light is the unwarranted appropriation or exploitation of one’s personality, the publicizing of one’s private affairs with which the public has no legitimate concern, or the wrongful intrusion into one’s private activities, in such manner as to outrage or cause mental suffering, shame, or humiliation to a person of ordinary sensibilities. "In many States it appears to be illegal to intrude upon someone's seclusion or solitude, to publicly disclose embarrassing private facts about someone; or to generate publicity that places the someone in a "false light" in the public eye". For public figures (public office & celebrities) to sue successfully for libel there must be proof that there was "actual malice" meaning the publisher had "knowledge that the [published information] was false" or that it was published "with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not." so there is more burden of proof needed regarding published information about sports celebrities like T-Mac if they chose to act on it. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR US?: So does that mean we all clam up? Quoting journalist Dan Gilmore Maybe this will be helpful for Clutch to develop an appropriate policy for clutchfans bbs as well as illuminating for us all as posters on clutchfans or any other forum for that matter. Maybe we should have a policy that says information posted that involves disclosure of a player's private affairs true or false be removed unless there is a credible professional journalistic source publishing the information. Perhaps someone with a legal background on the topic could comment. LOL, legally speaking I think Clutch is doing a fine job the way it is, I don't think he needs the PLI in prior restraint. Athletes suing fans for defamation is not on the horizon anytime soon.
