how do you know he's a dork? or are you saying that because he's really smart and not mr. excitement?
Right, but for everyone on that list there's a Danny Ainge or a Kevin McHale or an Isiah Thomas -- guys who obviously know a lot about winning basketball, but absolutely suck as GMs. I say we rate Morey based on his track record, which so far is represented by two things (from what we know): 1> Trading Howard for James. 2> Trying his best to convince V-Span to stay. Not a bad start. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.
I'm saying that based on his interview, the guy was dry and not funny and laughed at his own stupid jokes.
this morning he wasnt very good. but in the past he's been a lot better. He's in work mode now, im sure.
I wouldn't be so sure about this one. It could mean we are taking a guy like Rudy Fernandez who won't be able to come for another year. Most likely though, it's just one of those things that GM's say. Spanoulis to Little D for the #34 where we take Glen Davis? Luther Head for Brian Cook? He definitely has a different skill set than Chuck.
I felt the totally opposite about Morey than a lots ppl on this forum and I am starting to respect him more and more.. From the two trades so far, I think I Morey really did a very good job. As some other reports mentioned, Morey was the one who pushed for the Battier trade, which I think it's a very good trade during the JVG era. The 2nd trade was this James/Howard swap, I think it's a smart/right move. Ppl said Morey just a money guy, but I thought he is a people person as well. With Leslie's style, it's not likely for Leslie to praise Howard if he is no longer with the Rockets. But during the last several interviews, Morey actually did thanked Howard many times and highly praised about him... Oh well, time will tell, but like I said, I have alot more confident in Morey nowadays than one year ago.
could be. i don't know, i'm just trying to read put the pieces together. however, judging by morey's previous interviews about the draft where he said "we're looking at trades and FA to fill the PF spot." i would highly doubt that we take baby or any other PF with #26. additionally, he's hyping up the mid-second round. why? we are at #26, why is he saying that there is good talent around 40-45? could be softening the fans perspective on trading out of the first round and then trading a young guy like snyder or billy for a pick around there. again, who knows? but the way i see it is, he mentioned 40-45 and so that's where i'm thinking that he's targeting...or has a trade lined up with a team in that range. very well could be. with adelman saying bonzi is a 2, and that he is very impressed with novak (as a 3), then i would say luther is the odd man out. cook definitely fits the bill of what they are looking for at the 4.
That's not even close to being Correct. The Rudy Gay for Battier trade was solely brokered by Morey. That's not my opinion...that's a direct quote from Van Gundy in a recent interview. VG's exact comment was Les felt we weren't getting enough but signed off on the trade anyway. Even the most hard-core Battier supporters around here will tell you that the trade would have been balanced with Memphis' #24 pick. Not a great start. Secondly, the Rockets have been working on getting James back for a long time. This one fell into their laps with little to no effort. James WANTED to close out his career in Houston. This is a bye-round at best. Chasing VSpan does what exactly? McGrady's calling VSpan, too. But I don't think very many of us want McGrady as the Rockets' GM. Funny you should pick on Ainge when the Celtics are the team Morey helped to build. McHale's biggest screw up wasn't the lack of talent evaluation...it was signing an illegal contract with Joe Smith. Isiah actually recognizes talent quite well. He can't coach it.
Wow, I hadn't seen that quote about Novak. That's very encouraging. I never saw him as a 4. He's going to need to work on his quickness, as well as his strength. With the Cook trade, I'm on board if we get a swap of first rounders or at the very least one of their second rounders, which happen to be picks 40 and 48 (hmm...).
novak is neither a 3 or a 4...hes just a forward...the real question is he good enough to warrant minutes...should he take minutes from hayes? should he take minutes from snyder? wells?
Good post overall. You may be right on the "traded" part (#1). He could be referring to a foreign player or young guy, but for Morey or anyone with the Rockets it's hard to say with certainty what's going to happen at 26 when you have 25 questions to be answered for that. So could be thinking trade there, but I think overall though he's just managing expectations. We'll see.
Not to defend DM the GM, however your points are not all that well taken IMHO: 1 JVG's quote may be well quoted, but is it 'spot - on'? Ric Bucher will have us believe in the JVG spin. Where are the facts? I can't say for sure. Can you? 2 I'm with you on that one. 3 McG the GM? Why not? MJ was a lousy GM as a player and has not appeared to have improved subsequently. But TMac? With the general managing/personnel-ing of recent years I might happily give #1 a shot. Chasing VSpan is a good thing. What's the downside? 4 Morey, by all accounts, had little input with final decisions in C-land. I haven't heard any chasings by him of his former acquisitions, other than reed, have you? Morey in the #2 role? I'd be a lot more comfortable with an experienced basketballer in the hot seat. Maybe he is the smartest geek in the room and Voila! Rox'll be KG's and Kobe's and every other superstar's destination du jour next season. Maybe.
Are you talking to me? I don't fully understand what you mean, so maybe you're talking about something else? I haven't deleted any posts.
