Dallas is also acquiring Antwone Wright from new jersey for a second round pick.

Another good pick up for dallas.

This doesnt really help the mavs. What they need first and foremost is someone who is willing to take the ball into the paint consistently. Thats what theyve been missing since devin got injured and even w/ devin healthy, it wasn't enough. They need players who will stop settling for jumpers and take the ball inside. Kidd would have been better off in cleveland imho.

    Oh well, Come on Rockets.

I personally think this makes Dallas an easier opponent from the Rockets perspective. We have more trouble dealing with Harris than Kidd. But then Dallas has a pretty good track record of late with their personnel decisions.

What do you think the Nets will do with Mo Ager? I'd trade Luther in a heartbeat for him. Luther has a history of accomplishment with the Rockets, and Ager has a load of potential.

The Rockets need more youth and athleticism so I'm wishing we could pick up players like Ager, J.R. Smith, Gerald Green, Johann Petro, Serge Ibaka (draft), etc.

I saw that. What a steal! He will replace Jones/Stackhouse nicely one day. Not sure why the Nets are so low on the guy. He played well given minutes.

No more Warriors troubles for Dallas. I don't know how much better they are now, but the Warriors should now be an easy victory. Utah too. Those big guards won't be bumping Harris off anymore.

According to Hollinger, even if they do buy him out, the 30 day restriction makes it difficult to believe that a depth-starved team like Cleveland or other WC foes won't happily snap him up long before the Mavs have a chance to resign him.

Not even factoring Stackhouse et al, Harris for Kidd is a bad trade straight up. Forget about the future -- Harris is a better player *today* than Kidd is. Then you throw in a bunch of others...

Now all that remains is the Artest sweepstakes.

Rumors rumbling that Carter to Indy for Jermaine O'Neal may follow this. If true, that lessens the likelihood of Stackhouse being waived and returning to Dallas. That would be a major score, because without Stackhouse, I don't see this Mavs team causing much more noise than before.
Unless Cuban already had an under the table agreement with him.

I think they're going to hang onto him. He is a relative unkown because of his near non-existent playing time in Dallas. When he played in the summer league/offseason, he showed a little bit of his skills...so he's not just a "scrub throw-in." The Nets are looking to catch lightning with Ager.

As far as Luther...you've got to love the guy's confidence. He had a down year in the playoffs previously (exteremely down), but I think he's one of those players that will want another crack at it. He won't get down on himself...he'll be more aggressive come playoff time to prove he's a legit player. Whether or not he's capable is another story. Head for Ager would most likely be a lateral move at best for the Rockets (if not a downgrade).

I hope I'm wrong, but the thing about these trades that are going to make Phoenix and Dallas better is not in the numbers. It's in the value of the player's character. We all know that talent only gets you so far. What they are looking for is leadership and that unquantifiable quantity that will take them over the top. Shaq and Kidd have those qualities. They are pulling these trades for who they are rather than what they are. Kidd will uplift them from their chocking mindset of the last two years and give them the confidence and fortitude they were lacking, which are what kept them from winning it all. Again, I hope I'm wrong, and it blows up in both their faces. Go Rox!

Interesting. I don't understand why any one would trade for Carter at this point especially a team that doesn't appear to be contending any time soon w/ or w/o Carter. He will be on the books for five more years, yikes.

If Artest wants to play for Adelman and the Rockets, he might have to wait til after he opts out of his current contract. There are reports that the Magoofs do not want part in any trade that would make their former employee, Adelman, look good.

The victim in this whole thing is devin harris, if they were gonna trade him they could have at least pull the trigger on the portland 3 way trade where he would go to portland.

The dallas/portland package was better for new jersey than this one but i guess the nets just wanted to ruin devins career lol

Anyway great trade for dallas, but the diop loss is the only down side i see.

Because if you can't contend, and aren't close to contending, you need to make sure you don't end up in the red as well.

Pacers: last in the NBA in attendance on the season (12,300 a game, 67% capacity). O'Neal wants out, they know they aren't a move away from getting back into it. If Carter is anything, he's a decent draw.

Man they gave up nothing for Gasol. They traded a dude who arguably wasn’t one of their top 8 players and two late first round picks. Two late first round picks and a dude ya don’t need is nothing for an all-star talent, especially when he is a 7 footer in a league that covets size and still young.

If anything the Kidd trade shows how much Memphis got raped on that deal. At least they got what most consider a stud young guard, and this was for a dude on his last legs.

Edit: I do like the trade for the Mavs, kinda. They are clearly in win now mode. Morey needs to get off his butt and get some talent in here. And this is another example of why you don’t trade young talent like Rudy Gay. It’s easier to move players like that for help. We currently don’t have too many tradeable assets on the team…

I think the Nets are looking for a playground type PG to appease their awaiting Brooklyn fans. What was the proposed 3 way deal with Portland?
