If the Rockets can get something good for TMac (like a Bosh), sign Gortat, re-sign Ron, and have all the young players improve, this injury might be a blessing in disguise. It gives Yao sufficient time to heal without adding any extra pressure on him to return soon, and he'll play only half the season. I think that group could play well enough to be in the Playoff mix, and adding Yao mid-way, the Rockets add a fresh low post presence come playoff time. No team would want to play a healthy Rockets lineup with a fresh Yao.

Maybe Houston is playing a mind game with other GM. By making them think that Yao will be out they will let their guard down and trade away their access to Houston. I mean what team would want to give Houston another qualify superstar if Yao was healthy? They saw this team took the Lakers to 7 games without Yao. Another thing is that maybe they don't want to resign Artest.

We can only hope thats the case. It would be awesome though if it was. Like Morey comes out with a big "gotcha b****es" when yao comes back healty. and we have a quality all star that we got because a gm thought we were going to suck.

yea why don't they just say tracy's ridiculously ahead of schedule and is ready to play the first month of the season and so they can rob another team for mcgrady?

yao will NEVER be healthy after this. even if he comes back next year, an injury is inevitable.

They built around him but people can argue on how well we built around him.

As for past Rosters, can we agree last year and this year was the best Roster T-mac or Yao has ever had. 7 years in the league it only took 5 years to get a decent Roster around him (even than I questioned our PF's, where Scola and Landry stood out) I still question our 3 point shooting team, no where near the Magic's level. Overall some fans may feel to build around a center means doing what the magics are doing with DH and co. I mean hell they went out and got VC. Instead we are trying to get cheapest best players around......

For others this team was built around T-mac and Yao show. We focused more on Yao last year because T-mac bummed out. If T-mac was healthy, we might have won a championship. People would than be saying T-mac lead the Rockets.

But regardless he is injury prone, so hard to say. We had a lot of What IF years.........

Taking up that much cap space? Was Yao healthy after his rookie contract expires? He was. Was he worth the then max contract with his height and on court performance and age? He was. Rockets didn't do him a favor by signing a big contract. It was pure business based on mutual interest. Certainly fans like you didn't do that favor either. Please stop this mistake declusion again. I don't want to exaggerate, but can you honestly say that if Rockets didn't sign with Yao, that he can't get max offer from other 20 teams at the time?

Or you are just another one in the J. Williams camp, for the past 7 years, trying to come out with "I told you so" after every chance you got?

Are you saying when Rockets signed him you knew Yao's health can't be relied on?

To durvasa, I always admire your knowledge and your attention to real data and details. I made a mistake by not including guys like Battier and Head. But they are nowhere near any real offensive threat. Their performace in the Utah series was still vivid to many Rockets fans.

The fact that Rockets made so many 3 pointers, despite the fact that we are lacking real shooters, speaks volume of Yao's contribution. If you want to argue that is evidence of building around Yao, I can accept your point. But fact is, this building around isn't top quality, if you have to resort to Head and Battier.

What upsets me the most is the notion from some fans around here, that how Yao seems to screw up this great franchise. Yao attracted TMac, million of new fans, and put money in Les' pocket. Rockets team has been treating Yao well, and with respect. But I don't see how Yao owes anyone anything, certainly nothing to some random fans here who act like he/she is paying Yao's salary.

Lots of fans here are knowledgeable comparing to ESPN board, but I can't say some of the Rockets fans are grateful person. We crucify SF3, TMac, and now it's Yao's turn. They are all good people, and they tried a lot, especially Yao with his work ethic.

Like I said many many times, I am open for all kinds of trade ideas, but we can part with players with some respect. Applying same logic from MadMax, probably only Dream wasn't a mistake. We shipped away Ralph, Dream, SF3, and now TMac is getting closer, and Yao is crucified here for being hurt and playing hurt. Do we see any past contributors in the arena during games? Do we wonder why?

Trading players or not, but one thing I always remind myself is - never burn bridges. Some fans here can't say that for sure, and the funny thing is, most of them tend to belittle how unworthy fans from other teams are. JMHO.
