It will absolutely get worse. The break isn't healing - think of walking on ice with a gigantic crack through it. All it's going to do is expand until the breaks clean.

Nonunion fractures are extremely bad news and are very difficult to treat when it's not in a long bone (the situation where the doctors re-break someone's leg and re-set it).

Does anyone smell a rat that the Rockets' team doctor came out with this worst case scenerio the day before free agency starts? You'll know for sure what's up when Morey shows up at Gortat's doorstep at 12:00 a.m. eastern time with a mid level max years offer. An offer Gortat wouldn't have otherwise considered if he thought he would only get at most 18 minutes a game as Yao's backup.

Cmon. you dont go outta your way to lie about an injury to your franchise player to sign a guy named Marcin Gortat. most people on this board are in denial.

Umm, remember TMac? The Rockets' team doctors said he was fine, that he should just get in shape and shut up and play.

Plus mayb ethe added benefit of getting China to stop pressuring him to play in the summer.

Or maybe DM had already been informed of the severity of Yao's condition and determined that the sooner potential Cs know we need one, the better. Yao's leg not healing had already been known before free agency began, but most of the posters here said it was nothing. The announcement might have been timed at the start of free agency so Morey can start wooing potential replacements, not just Gortat but other peeps like Mcdyes as well (see other thread). I doubt DM would stoop so low as to fake Yao's injury (Yao certainly wouldn't stand for that BS, and if I was Les I'd have him fired for pulling stunts like that). He's probably just making the best of the situation.

Yahoo broke the news and didn't use a doctor as a source.

The organization's doctor came out w/ a statement after the initial news broke and showed up on every other sports/basketball news wire.

Yao's in on the hoax, he wants the Rockets to get a good backup for him. He also wants to give China an excuse why he can't play for them anymore.

You're reaching, man. Face it. Yao is in trouble. The Rockets are in trouble. As TJ would say "Folks, this is real"

Oh and if we have to lie about an injury to sign GORTAT, then im very concerned about our ability to attract free agents to houston

LOL @ the "relief" induced by these allegations of an "exaggerated" report. Yes folks, there is no cause for concern here at all, lol, let's just sign mcdyess and wait out this latest injury.

Good grief, there needs to be some kind of age limit implemented in here.

Isn't it a little strange that nobody from the Rockets has commented on this huge news yet? Have to wait until the second opinions come in? Yeah, right. Actually, they have to wait until after they sign Gortat, then they will come out and say Yao will be fine, so the season ticket holders won't freak.

yes, Gortat is so immensely valuable it's worth floating the idea that doctors are concerned that Yao's career is in jeopardy...that's a great idea when you're trying to sell season ticket packages.

again....if we have to lie about an injury to sign GORTAT, then i am more concerned about our organization and its ability to attract free agents than i am with Yao's foot.

Read the other thread just heating up with Feigan's interview. The Rockets may sign Yao to an extension this summer, at a discount. Do you give a long term extension to a player if you think he might never play again? The Rockets know what they are doing, everyone needs to calm down.

It's not a lie, it's an opinion. It's one doctor's opinion. But the doctor did not state probabilities. Like Ric Bucher said, we don't know if its a one percent chance that Yao will never play again, etc. Maybe the chance is a Lloyd Christmas chance: "So you're telling me there's a chance... "

that's called hedging bets. remember where we were before this...we were talking about max deals. if the rockets can sign yao to an extension and not encumber themselves with a max deal, i'm all for it. then you hope like crazy it can work out.

but you don't give a max deal to this guy right now. or even if he comes back next season.
