But we wouldn't be considered a contender without Yao. Yao being health would attract free agents. Yao being out indefinitely would drive them away.

The only way I see it helping is in signing a good backup center. Somebody like Gordat might be more inclined to sign here knowing he's going to get significant time as the starter for at least a good chunk of the season if not all of it.

    You know, for my money...
...this is exactly what the Rockets should have gotten with Yao's injury.

Scared out of their freaking minds.

If Yao had a break in his foot, I understand using the least invasive and inhibiting method possible to promote healing...

...but a broken bone is a broken bone. And especially in the case of Yao, he should have gotten a more thorough and restrictive diagnosis than a soft boot and free movement on that broken foot....
....hoping that somehow, miraculously, the bone heals on its own.

Any doctor familiar with Yao's injury history should have made Yao wear a cast and walk around on crutches for at least a month after he was sidelined.

Yao's playing next year. I don't think, personally, he needs the screws in his foot in order to play. He, and the Rockets, just need to get serious about getting him healed and in the best possible way...

...especially since there don't seem to be any outward signs of complications with Yao's injury. If he had been in a real cast and off his feet for a month or so, this wouldn't have been a story...

...not to mention a larger fracture that people are acting surprised to see...

...swear to God, sometimes....I think Daffy Duck would make a better doctor around here...

Somebody, Yao, please enlighten us as to what the score really is! My fingers are already hurting from keeping them crossed that the injury is not as bad as initially reported. Will Yao please issue a press release stating what really is the score. I am not ready to give up but if the truth hurts so be it.

The guy isnt healing right. There is probably no denying that. As to when he is healed and can come back, that is the question to be answered.

As per Bucher's report, Yao says he feels fine and is ready to play, but does not want to go against the doctors word. Hopefully some quack will give us the 8th opinion that we seek and say if he can play through it he should!

Yao cannot answer the question,he is not a doctor.Clanton may not be the best surgeon in the world, but I would put more faith in him than Sportscenter.
Having said that, their report is quite discouraging too.

I dont know if we got that 8th opinion last year but that sounds really familiar to another player we had last year! ;)

I'm not going to bother getting my hopes back up until we know... We still really need a legit back-up center at the VERY least. I just don't see it ever really getting better.

Even Yao didn't miss the entire 09 season, but these reports basically tell us that sooner or later yao will break down again, be it minor or major injuries!

If he needs surgery, I wish he would do it and hurry up. Every day he puts off surgery is another game he's missing.

The Rockets need to plan for worst case scenario, because that's what usually happens.

We could really use some good news on this. Our team is too talented and cares too much to go down like this.

He has refractured a major bone which already has a pin in place. The doctors can give no guarantee of success.

Someone here please tell me what's the good news??!!

That ESPN THINKS the Rockets are exaggerating this, OR
that Yao not wanting to have a sugery and wants to play on broken bone?

DO we really want to keep our fingers crossed this bad? for the whole season.

ESPN/Ric Bucher thinks the news was an "overreaction" or not as bad as AW on Yahoo Sports said it was and/or was an exaggeration as some have said, and thinks Yao will do surgery and be back at some point later in the season.

Ask Cuttino Mobley if the Rockets ever downplayed a medical condition to get a trade through
