SportsCenter: Chargers place Shawne Merriman (calf) on IR with designation (he must be released when healthy).

That is what SportsCenter tweeted earlier today. That basically means the Chargers placed him on IR and when he's healthy he will be released. I think the Texans should take a chance on this guy. He's only 26 so he can't be washed up yet, and he was a total beast not too long ago. I know he was a 3-4 outside linebacker and never played as a defensive end, but the Texans are desperate for a pass rush and they have nothing to lose by bringing Shawne Merriman on board. I am all for it. What do you guys think?

Well I've watched just about every Chargers game and every Texans game for the last 7 years and I can tell you the Texans do not need Meriman. The guy is done. He's been all talk and no results for 3 years now and I see no signs that he is going to go back to his old form. The Texans are better off sitting tight on this one.

as long as we get both merriman and cushing back on the roids our defense will be dominant.

Texans need more pash rushing and he fits the bill. Wouldn't want to pay him alot of money though, if he was willing to come in for a low amount, les do this.

I really wish we weren't in a position where we felt like we needed to go dumpster diving for sloppy seconds every time some washed up player gets cut :(

If he were willing to come in for a low amount, he would still be in San Diego. The Chargers got tired of his complaining for more money. He seems like the kind of guy that doesn't play as hard when he is not happy with his contract and saying he is not happy with his contract now is an understatement.

I could not care less about his past. The Texans are DESPERATE right now, they need any type of secondary or pass rushing help they can find.

Probably the most overrated player in the league. Regardless of how desperate the texans are when this guy hasn't been hurt hes been getting dominated on the field.

And that is different from what the Texans already have how? There is no way you could tell me that he would contribute any less than the crap they are trotting out there now

He's looked AWFUL this year and wasn't half the player he used to be last year either.

I don't see him helping anyone out, barring an LDT type miracle comeback.

Not only did he get smaller, but he also got whiter. Not good for sports.
